So I guess the answer to your title would be no.
this is another moment I wish we had soem "shared cloud saves" where X people can share a save game from the cloud and whoever starts the game first is the host in that session so that everyone can play when they got time even if the others aren't there. I miss this kind of feature in amny games like terraria, the forest. etc.
I guess my group of friends just won't be playing this multiplayer.
Does that mean that anything we build won't last?
Been watching this game for some time, but not interested in single player, I wanted something that could be shared by friends, but not on the very limited scope they are planning currently.
Are you willing to pay them more money so they can implement it "properly"? Doubt it. Just be grateful for what you have.
You speak for the devs? Didn't think so. You have no idea how many more sales and how many people (myself included) would pay more money for a proper MP experience, such as setting up persistent worlds on a server.
Perhaps learn more about the industry before making comments on subject matter you clearly no very little about. ;-)
Maybe you should also learn more before you comment.
I don't know the complexion of the creation of some sort of save to an 'online host' that could be implemented to the save functions in the game. You don't want Mr X to host and save, go off line. then what do the others do, who saves after that? Mr Y?? Then can Mr X get the updated save if Mr Y is not on line? Can Mr Y later host the game and Mr X join??
Can you only play the co-op if the original host is on line? Could be awkward in the event of holiday/vacation/illness/death or even working hours over time zones.
Whether you achieve that through local co-op, online co-op with 2 people, with 4 people, or a dedicated server with 100's of people, it all falls under the umbrella term of "multiplayer".
It might not be grand enough for what you hoped for, but that doesn't make it less multiplayer.
I think your expectations come from not having experienced the game in its current form. I adore Medieval Dynasty, but the map is relatively small. There is a building limit. Buildings are prefab. The game is not combat heavy. It's more a city sim/life sim, with some lite RPG and survival elements, but the main aspect is the city sim aspect.
You cannot compare it to games like Icarus. To be frank; I wouldn't even know what a multitude of people would even do on a small map. There wouldn't be enough to keep yourself busy with.
Also; like others already mentioned, Render Cube is a small studio with a limited budget and MD was made and designed as a single player game, with all the systems designed for single player.
To transform this into 4 ppl co-op is already a mean feat. Going a lot beyond that would be overkill for what the game currently offers.
I know from other games in a similar situation that people then just share the save file around, so anyone with the save file can host the game.
But I have not done this myself yet, so don't know how easy or annoying it would be. Network stuff is also not my forte, so I have no clue how complicated it is for the devs to set up some form of cloud saving between people in a co-op mode.
