Clueless bureaucrats want iron from my bronze-age settlement
A bit humorous that a king's messenger would be requesting something I have no chance to provide, but that aside, it'd be good if the condition for triggering this quest took into account player's tech development level.

The quest is Let's Make It Better, and it requires building materials. Among them is 60x Iron Bar. This is more than can be purchased from traders and my development level does not allow me to have a mine and make iron bars myself.

You have 5 seasons to aquire the materials, more than enough time to purchase the materials from the vendors on the map. As they refresh their inventory each season

I see, I missed the part that you have multiple seasons. I guess I'll have a regular commute to Hornica for a while.

there is a mine between branica and baranica, put a mineshaft over the entrance, send workers to the mine and put pickaxes in resource storage, you'll have iron

Can't, that was my original point. My tech is not high enough to build a mineshaft and the quest requires it. So the only way to get it is to buy from a miner.

The king better appreciate that 7k coins I'm about to drop for him. :)

As unfortunate as it is, I love your topic title.

Except he doesn't have mines unlocked yet...

Thank you, I also got a chuckle out of it when the game gave me the quest.

1st thought: this makes no sense, maybe it's a bug.
2nd thought: actually, a king's messenger asking for something without caring how hard it is to acquire - that kind of checks out. :)

the smith in the L town also sells iron, so hit up both of them, also when you're near a cave keep an eye out sometimes you can find iron laying around but watch out for the cave guardians.

Well, the way you phrase it in the title, it sounds like a highly realistic demand from a far away monarch.^^
