Quarries = mines?

I see a lot of potential quarries I can dig out with my pickaxe, but no natural caves. Are quarries the way I build mines?

There are actual mountains in this game? The whole time I've been travelling between towns, I haven't encountered anything bigger than a rock hill.

Here's a hint, for 1 of (several) mines try walking between Branica and Baranica looking to the north as you go, Extra clue, near the end of the stream.

If streams are the criteria for finding mines, I think I found one near the injured courier I rescued in an early mission.

Don't think there is a mine by the courier. You can't miss them. They are caves filled with mineral deposits to mine.

Good thing there are player-made maps in other online forums. Considering the limited daylight this game is set to, I seriously doubt I would EVER find them - even if 3 are in a row directly west of Hornica.

The map isnt that big. Sounds like you just haven't explored very much.

A good hint as to where the caves are: not all of them every season, but some of them have bears that spawn outside them. So if you check the hunting mode on your map and see a bear or at least get the notification that there's a bear sighted, there may be a cave near their spawn.

I've found four on my own as there were no maps when I first started playing.

There's the one in the meadow between Brenica & Baranaica. There is a Bear is to the west.
There's the one in the pass as you travel the north route from Denica to Hornica (and has TWO bears).
There's the one in the pass as you travel the south route from Denica to Hornica with one bear).
There's the one that's west of the road as you travel from Jerzica to Rolnica (there's a bear there too!)

In fact, as I can tell, Bears tell you where the caves are.

EDIT: I'm sure there are more. Where ever you have rocky mountains, there's sure to be bears and a cave. I just have had no need to continue to find them.

Another indicator is there will be a person who sells ore and mining tools in some of the towns where there are caves available.

And expect the game to troll you. Found a cave, yay! Found a hunting ground for bears right before it. YAY! Had to remove 2 bears first after being attacked by 5 outlaws...oh happy day. Glad I did not run into a wolf with 10 health left when returning home. Came back to mine next day - another bear! Yee-haw! ;)

Finally used a pickaxe on a rock mound. Turns out it's not a quarry at all. Just a single random chance for limestone and regular stone.
