Alvin's archery challenge is broken?
So you talk to Alvin, and he has set up a target on the river bank , which he has talked you into helping by supplying materials, and he now claims he has been practicing and now wants to challenge you for 100 coins per 3 shot try at 20 meters! Oh, and he claims his score is 60 point some number I don't remember and I have to beat that to win. So I set up a target at home and pace off 20 meters, and after verifying that it is indeed 20 meters per a few shots that I adjust my distance per the announced distance, I drop a few big stones to mark the spot. After getting good enough to put 3 in the 100% category most of the time, I go to his target and pace off the same 20 meters, and put down marker stones. I then talk to Alvin, accept the challenge and give him my 100 coins, march down to the mark I set up, let off my 3 shots, all 3 are 100% yet I am only scored at 19.7 per shot ( just to point out that I assume the center bullseye is suppose to be 20 points ) then how does he get 60.+ for a final score? When I do this, the music plays and says I completed the challenge - talk to Alvin who acts like I lost, keeps my money and tells me I can try again for 100 coins, which immediately results in the same results! The challenge never ends and move on to the next whatever!

Somebody out there can clue me in on what is happening here? Are the Dev's playing some big practical joke on the public?

the further away you are the higher your points will be

You need a distance from over 20m and the score to reach is at least 64. ;)

This video might help.

Yea, I just now figured it out that his estimation of 20 meters is a little long if that is indeed his score! At a distance of approximately 21 meters on my home target I get 20.5 points for a 100 % shot! So the contest really isn't very fair because you have to take his word for his score and where exactly he was standing when he suggested the range should be 20 meters. :steamfacepalm:

You get 1 point for each meter of distance if you hit the target at 100% accuracy.
So the whole thing is quite simple:
20 meters at 100% gives you 20 points, as you correctly pointed out.
How can you expect 3 times 20 to be more than the 64 points Alwin got?
Increase your shooting distance to about 25 m and hit the target as precisely as you can, and you will easily win this competition.

No one had ever claimed that Alwyin shoots from 20 meters distance.
There are two parts to this task.
In the first part, Alwyn wants you to show him how to shoot. For this lesson, he thinks 20 m is enough to understand the concept.
Then he did some practice and ended up with 64 points, which obviously shows that he is further away than just the 20 meters from the first part of the task.
It only takes a little reading and a tiny bit of thinking to understand that you have to shoot from a greater distance to win the competition.

Gee, I sure hope you are still that smart when you get to 80. Have a good day!

Please keep it polite guys, no reason for vitriol.

I'm sure you can win this and show Alwin who's the better archer. Don't give up! :)

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you.
It's just - ... you should at least read a quest and process all the informations the game's showing you before you claim it's broken.

Don't be too offended by Cap, he's always helpful and a mine of information, just not always the most tactful :steamsunny:

The sad part of this 'story' is that Alvin eventually leaves the valley never to be seen again... I want to know did he become the great hunter or did he get killed by some nasty creature. I walked with him all the way to the edge of the valley, just to see if we would shake hands, wave...

nicely put xD

Let's just say I might tend to react a little bit grumpy when players blame the game for their lack of attention. ;)

I think there is an achievement if you hit the target from 100+ meter. This will also automatically win the contest. Just bring with you a lot of arrows and keep shooting till you hit something :)

I know more than one player managed 1000m

I'm pretty sure the achievement is about scoring 100 points with one shot.
It is not enough to hit the target at 100 metres. You either have to hit with 100% accuracy at 100 metres, or you trade accuracy for distance and move further away.
