How do we see obstacles blocking a building?
Is there a trick to this? I want to tuck a house for hunters into the woods with as few trees/rocks removed as possible to give it that Mad Mountain Mike vibe. I've cut down/removed trees and rocks I could see poking up through the red, but there must be more. I'm going nuts trying to figure out what exactly is blocking construction...

From what I read, branches clipping through the building can block as well. So if you suspect a tree guilty of this, you can try to cut it down (leave the stump!) and see if you can place the building after that. When the tree regrows, the branches will clip through the wall, but that doesn't bother me.

No real trick; but you can try with a smaller building to move the blueprint over the area to see if that is easier to see from what point it goes from green to red.

While the building is still red, go to Photo Mode, then Camera Mode. Now you can navigate around and hopefully spot what's blocking. Most of the time this works to identify the block, though I had one location yesterday where there was nothing visually blocking but the game insisted something was.

FYI, rocks don't block construction. At least not the rocks that you can remove. The only ones I've found that block construction are the ones that you can mine with a pickax.

It's most likely tree branches. Try rotating the building and see if you can wedge it in somehow. I've found that works on uneven ground sometimes too.

Also, it's easier in 3rd person than 1st person view.

Thank you so much for the tips! If anyone has more tips, please add them for future readers and accept my thanks!

To make it clear for future readers, when you've got that pesky "redprint" that tells you objects are interfering, you get into 3rd person view (this is necessary). Then you hit Esc to get into the game menu. Pick Photo Mode. In Photo Mode, hit C for Camera Controls. In the camera controls, the mouse wheel controls the camera's movement speed. W and S move the camera forward and back, A and S pan it from side to side. Mouse movements revolve the camera around the point of focus, and don't rotate it on it's own axis. With this, you can even cam in under the building and see the buggers causing problems!

This is how I shoehorned a house into the woods with trees all around it: I cammed to each corner of the "redprint" and took a screenshot showing stuff in the landscape to help me find that corner again. Saved each shot on my desktop. Opened them in a photo viewer. Exited camera controls and photo view and resumed the game. I used the screenshots to help me find the exact spot where the corner of the "redprint" was and I dropped an item from my inventory on that precise point (drag the thing out of your inventory list will drop it). These items were my "pegs" to outlining where I needed to remove stumps. Done!

Thanks guys for your really helpful answers!
