Villagers won't eat or drink.
I just started my second playthrough of the game and have run into a problem that I didn't have before. I'm at the camp stage and maxed out with 5 buildings. I have a well and a worker assigned to it but have no water skins or water buckets yet, so obviously he is idle. None the less, I did buy a bucket full of water and placed it in the villager's storage. (I can't build a food storage structure yet.) I also tried putting it in general storage but that didn't work. They still won't drink. (Same for food. There is food in their personal storage but they won't eat it.) Their happiness is now at -51% and they're giving me dirty looks when I walk by. Any idea what's going on. They'll hit -100 in a few days and leave.

When you say you placed it in the villager's storage; do you mean the chest in their house?

Make sure you allowed them to consume it under food and under drink:

Also.make sure it really is his house. And not your own.

There's a trick to cheese the tech for the food storage. Build farm fields, hoe/grub them up, then destroy them with the hammer. You'll get all your low level farming tech pretty quick like that. It's kinda cheaty, especially if you're not wanting to farm right away, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Before you get the storage buildings, make sure you have food, water, and firewood (or sticks or logs, if you prefer) in each individual house that a villager lives in. They cannot take items out of each other's houses (or your house). Also check to make sure they are allowed to use the types of food/water/fuel you have given them, as mentioned above.

Thanks Morri,

Well that's the strangest thing. I double checked who was in each house and found that we had somehow switched. No idea how that happened. When I built my house I put a number of items in my chest. This was before I even built the second house., so I know for a fact that I hadn't gotten them confused.

I placed food and water into the villager's chest and the no food icon went away for them, but for some reason I still have the no water icon displayed for them. So it recognizes that they have food now but still no water. There is a full water bucket and a full water skin in their inventory but they still display the no water icon. Their mood is now -81.

See Morri’s picture about allowing and disabling consumption of food and water in the management tab “People’s demand control”. If they are showing that they still need water when you have put it in their house chest it is most probably due to it being disabled in that management tab.

I have 3 houses, Hunting lodge, Wood shed, and a well. No one at the well yet. I put a lot of meat, salt, feathers, and other items in the chest in the Hunting lodge. My Villagers won't eat. Do I have to put food in thier homes?, Or should it be self contained?

For their work needs (tools, materials, etc), your villagers can interact with the chest in their work building, or the storage buildings (food storage for food and drink, resource storage for non-food).
But for their personal needs (food, drink and firewood), they can only interact with the chest at their home, or the storage buildings (food and drink from the food storage, firewood from the resource storage).

So right now you'll have to put it in their houses yourself.
Once you have a food storage and a resource storage building, your villagers will take what they need from there. They will also put everything they make and gather in there, so they are must-have's if you want a self-sufficient village.
