Farmer's range
It used to be where crop fields needed to be within a certain distance of a barn in order to be worked by farmers, but now that the farmer's hut is added, I've noticed that once finished with his fields, a farmer will travel quite a distance to work another field, even if they aren't assigned to the farmers hut near those crops. This needs to be fixed.

Allways been like that. Just diffrent building. Dont disagree tho.

There was never a max distance a farmer would travel for a field, just a warning that the efficiency is low if over 70m. The farmer mechanics are exactly the same now as when using the barn, just moved to their own building instead

I'd be happy if they had 'orchard workers' then at least you could have orchards in a separate area from crop fields.

And yeah I found out be accident that the farmers will walk miles (or kilometres) to get to a field.. So would add my voice to a limit of wander as they are the only workers that actually NEED to be on the worksite to gather/plant etc

Totally agree. It would be nice if the Farm sheds had specific fields assigned to them.

Timely discussion. I have an area with a few hops that say they are low efficiency, though just barely. I hate to nuke plants so just putting a shed over there would fix that? Worker housing is actually a little closer to that area then current shed. Not that I might not rebuild later but for now that extra shed seems the answer. Did I read that you want sheds near barn so workers don't meander all over the place - or is another hope of efficiency not realistic?

My farmers always harvested those low efficiency areas. But then, they had enough time to do so. You just need enough time and/or enough farmers.

When the work day starts, your farmers will first go - from wherever they are at that time - to the shed they are assigned to. Once they reached the shed, they'll start going to the closest field/orchard to that shed where there's still a task to be done AND claim that task for themselves immediately, so the next farmer reaching the shed will not try to go do that same task.

It doesn't matter how far the field/orchard is from the shed, eventually they'll go to it if they are done with working the closer by fields/orchards.
So even if it says the efficiency is lower, they'll usually still get around to it.

What's worse is if a farmer travels to another farm to work they will take the place of one of the closer farmers. Which means those farmers will stand around idle and the work may never get done.

In theory that should only be possible if the far-away farmer arrives at his shed before the closer-by ones arrive at theirs, and all the close fields/orchards to far-away shed are already done. But y, i really would like to be able to say which fields/orchards can be worked by which shed (including the option 'none').

This is doable right now, just have a farm shed near your orchards. I have most of my orchard tiles between my houses and buildings (adds a bit of aesthetics) quite a ways away from my farm fields. I built a shed in the center of town that I named "public works" just to harvest those orchards. I only have someone assigned there for the summer months, then I move them back to the barn or to another farm shed after.
