A Question on Kings..
I've noticed now, having restarted a "number" of times..

The Kings have different Sub Titles, The Wise, The Strong etc.. do these titles reflect a difficulty in the game? Are Ignorant Kings.. more difficult to deal with? Is there a good king effect that's easier to have?

They impact what happens when you do their challenges (that's the random occasions a herald shows up with a quest for the king).

Depending on the suffix, your king can be perceived either good, neutral or bad by the people.
All of them will lower your taxes when you complete their quests, but depending on what king you have, your villagers might not like you helping the king.

So if you do quests for a good king, your villagers will get a mood boost. With a bad king, their mood will decrease. And with a neutral king, they don't care.
Those mood boosts/decreases also stay til the king dies of old age.

Yes, just don't accept his quest and there'll be no repercussions.

made that mistake of thinking too.
dynasty implies royalty and that racimir certainly is not.
-it is mere case of desire to continue your bloodline.. in a time where there were no last names.. so it may not even be truly dead, just all the branches you know of are.
**having just 1 child if your bloodline not dying out is so important for you.. does not make much sense though.

There kinda of were last names we just simplify them now. Roland the Miller is called Roland Miller now. That said I don't know anyone called Shipbuilder or jobbycollector :D

I'll take your advice though thanks !

Morri your Link is marked as Dangerous though I'm not sure whether it's just from the first (bracket ) being too close to the link
Lol.. going by history a mad king is probably the one you especially would want to pay taxes to...

I had a good King and noticed he was replaced by a bad king, rolled back to he save before he died and at season change a few years later I got a good King to replace him.

Yeh I've had to do this sometimes to get stag skulls and buffalo skulls as on skinning they drop randomly, i guess a king is randomly chosen as well so rolling back to a previous save would fix the problem.. surely, one would think that a good king would have good children..

3 types of naming scemes.

1 germanic..
if you were dirk male and your dad was jan
you would dirk jansson
if a woman calle anne with a mother called freija
you would be anne freijadaughter

2 nickname
jack the short
jack the lame
jack the bold
jack the blind
jack the fat
jack without fear
jack the lustfull
jack the conquerer
etc
often given by friends.

3 derrived from 2.. often if your life was boring you would be called to your profession
jack miller
jack baker
jack smith
jack builder
jack lumber

1 would mean your children would not share your lastname.

2 would mean you and your siblings would not have the same last name..

3 would mean you could change last name by changing job

you would in church marriagee just be bob.. not bob the ....

oh i forget one placenames.
people with a placename as lastname.. we have people with last names like reimerswaal places sunk beneath the wave long long ago

wow nice posts on dutch names! that's crazy interesting sounds like my memory module is horny geil lol it seems mighty be more complex but certainly so many English surnames are the jobs family performed. off top of head... priest, cooper, thatcher, brewer, Fletcher, wright, carpenter, plumber, thresher, mason, potter, smith, hunter, fisher, loud yelly guy, pool boy and u could mix em too like botwright would be a ship builder. and dont forget all the various assistants often had family names too lol. heck maybe footman squire merchants...

what i found fascinating is an old dictionary I saw when I was young. not sure if it was at this point 200 years old but it had like some sort of prickly very short animal fur felt like on the cover. and all the words...and there where LOTS, where common english at the time but incorporated all the tech of the time, basically stuff made from wood...and it was MUCH more complex than you would think. not like this is a wheel or a barrel. and I am not just talking bung hole. it was on the level of say what all the kids with memes and the background deep dive into culture to understand them,,,or someone who really knows how to build a computer and make the associated software. As we have forgotten all the tech required to make these things most of the words are gone.

here ya go

arkwright
boatwright
bridgewright
cartwright
castlewright
cheesewright
gemwright
housewright
ironwright
millwright
playwright
plowwright, ploughwright
shipwright
speechwright
steelwright
stonewright
timberwright
treewright
wainwright
wheelwright
woodwright
the spellings of the names can be different though depending on what language and time the surname got somewhat solidified. this list from wiki but using modern word/spellings

Angela cartwright or Nancy cartwright are pretty famous ( for many generation space though) lol

ALSO could put all these families in the game LOL

Not really relevant to the topic, firstly. Secondly, the "dynasty" part is you starting a village and becoming a thriving community, and your child eventually inheriting that. "Dynasty" doesn't mean "your family accomplishes something one generation can't do on it's own". It means "a position of power inherited within the family." Which is exactly what the game allows you do to with it's heir system. As you are basically the "mayor" of your village.

Comes to mind that this is a game developed in Poland so maybe for we native English speakers that get a translation, dynasty might be the closest thing to the Polish word but not exact. The translation is elegant and works well though.

Queue a Polish speaker to give us the real skinny. Thanking you in advance.

those come from the years the french occupied our country anf forced all people to registrate a last name in the late 18th century/early 19th century.

most dutch though surnames were a fab we would get rid of once we got rid of the french.

so many picked ridiculous ones as a protest against french.

<snip>

to their horror the dutch goverment when it regained power did not restore the old no surename policy but kept them around and people were not allowed to change them..
That's what I heard as well, but turns out not to be fully true, since the people mostly already had a last name of a sort (more like a nickname) - except maybe for a few rare cases that purposely picked a silly one to get one over on the french.

(had to censor your post because of the word use, sadly)

Yeh most cultures base surnames on work tasks or with/without adding in son/daughter to it. So James the son of the shipbuilder.. would become James Wainwrightson. Then eventually Wainson or Wains and so on. Since everyone likes to use acronyms nicknames etc.

Here people are named after their clan, which is why you see so many celtic family names everywhere.. mcdonald, macdonald, mckeevie, mcnearson and so on. (my spellings are probably wrong)

My surname allegedly comes from the Town of Bothe which allegedly means Trader Area which then commonly became known as Animal Place ie where you would auction animals and slaves and buy goods.. a Booth. So people call me Martin Phonebox now.

Because that makes sense.

Continuing with the original post. Do kings live longer or shorter than npcs in general or do they get ousted/executed or do they just die after a given time..
