Use of oat, rye, wheat help
Is the only reason to have oat, rye, and wheat to make grain? Is there no reason to keep them the way they're grown?

Yes, they must be transformed into grain, which gives chaff and grain. Grains are used to make flour, are used in cooking recipes and oats and rye are used to make animal food. The seeds are obviously used the following season to replant.

So I should automatically everytime I harvest them, turn them to grain? Just wanna make sure we're on the same page lol

For use by your villagers you need the grains.

Occasionally the Herald will give a king challenge that requires the crops as they are harvested Eg Wheat, Oat, Rye. (Can’t remember if you need all three or just one specific crop.) But as you have five seasons in which to complete a Challenge Quest, you would have enough seasons to harvest fresh crops and NOT thresh them into grain. (Or purchase the Oat/Rye/Wheat from the NPC vendors.)

You could use them in their original form to decorate your village, if you're into that, but there's not much reason not to thresh them into grain.

not sure what you mean.
**if you ask can you leave crops on the field unharvested as decoration.

no, you can not. unharvested crops will be destroyed at start of next season.

**if you ask do wheat stalks, oat stalks and rye stalks have recepies they can be used for without treshing them.

no they can not, all recepies use flour or the seeds which only can be obtained by treshing or milling

*if you ask can I keep wheat stalks, grain stalks, rye stalks for decoration

yes thats possible grain stalks do not rot in your inventory nor when dropped on the ground.

Any work done by others is always easier :-). So, I advise you to use villagers, assign them to the barn and give them the job of turning into grains.

I usally keep 6 or so of each unthreshed, for the odd seasonal quest that sometimes pops up where an npc can ask for it.
But i thresh all the others into grain straight away yes, no reason not to.

Humans can't digest chaff, you need to separate chaff from grain both in real life and in the game.

grains are a typical precursor to flour, if you have enough grains to make flour with no interest in the other breads then I would keep enough to sow the next years fields and flout only. Sell the rest if you like, Other the only other recipes are really for porridge, which is oat only.
Oats I'm sorry are also used in conjunction with rye and straw to make animal feed. Those rates are 1 oat, 1 rye, 5 straw.

but not always superior.. you have a skill that can give extra resources when harvested or treshed. your villagers do not.

What I have not seen mentioned is straw after being threshed from oats, rye and wheat is used for roofs.

I believe you need straw, oat and rye for animal feed.

They really should be using the ancient name for wheat as what we call wheat now is a mere shadow of what once was, should call it Frankenwheat.
Einkorn or Emmer is the name for what the game calls wheat generically, more authentic. You can still buy it and it has not been genetically modified.

I only buy heirloom seeds anyway. Hybrid seeds suck for replanting. Hell, some of them are engineered to produce sterile seeds so you have to buy seeds every time you plant. Greedy bastards.
