Food rots faster in your personal inventory, it rots less quickly in containers, and food lasts longer in the food storage building.
Like all craftable decoration, they are only meant to be placed outside.
Mostly meant for decoration, but you can put stuff in them as well.
Keep in mind that only the player can interact with them, so your villagers can't take items from there.
They won't deteriorate.
As for deterioration of items placed in them; items like wood, sticks etc don't deteriorate anywhere over time. Even if you drop them on the floor. They'll stay there, pristine, forever.
(only items that are used deteriorate a bit after each use, like bowls, buckets, flasks, etc).
Food does deteriorate over time and will slowly spoil. How fast that goes, depends on where you store it.
In order of best preservation first:
- food storage building chest
- any other chests (chests from other buildings, house chests, and also the ones you can craft)
- player inventory
- dropped on the floor (instantly turns to rot the next season) - this can be turned off in the settings if you want to use food to decorate your village.
- compost bin (instantly turns to rot the next season)
Drinks don't spoil, but milk will turn to sour milk the next season, which is also an ingredient for a few recipes.
Hope this helps :-)
Thank you
edit I am a mid level player, I know the basics but not the higher level stuff. Oh and I do get too immersed most time I play.
