Craftable chest
I just started in Medieval Dynasty and d/l-installed through Steam. Got the full package. I have a question of crafting the storage chest. Postings talk about the chests inside buildings. I found one from last year that said there was no loose chests. Maybe this is a new option?
On mine you press Q for the crafting menu - Furniture and Decorations - Containers and have the option to create a chest using 8 lumber and will hold 50 kg. There is not any information in Medieval Dynasty Wiki.
So far I have found this chest can't be placed inside any buildings. Does anyone have any information about these chests? Can they actually be placed anywhere? Do they deteriorate? How long does items like food last in them? Do other items, wood, sticks, tools, have the same deterioration rate as in the Storage building chest?

Thank you for any help.

Handcrafted containers can only be placed outside, on the ground. Food rots in them over time, but other items are unaffected by deterioration.

Food rots faster in your personal inventory, it rots less quickly in containers, and food lasts longer in the food storage building.

The craftable containers like the chest, barrel, sack are indeed relatively new to the game and were added a few patches ago.
Like all craftable decoration, they are only meant to be placed outside.

Mostly meant for decoration, but you can put stuff in them as well.
Keep in mind that only the player can interact with them, so your villagers can't take items from there.
They won't deteriorate.

As for deterioration of items placed in them; items like wood, sticks etc don't deteriorate anywhere over time. Even if you drop them on the floor. They'll stay there, pristine, forever.
(only items that are used deteriorate a bit after each use, like bowls, buckets, flasks, etc).

Food does deteriorate over time and will slowly spoil. How fast that goes, depends on where you store it.
In order of best preservation first:
- food storage building chest
- any other chests (chests from other buildings, house chests, and also the ones you can craft)
- player inventory
- dropped on the floor (instantly turns to rot the next season) - this can be turned off in the settings if you want to use food to decorate your village.
- compost bin (instantly turns to rot the next season)

Drinks don't spoil, but milk will turn to sour milk the next season, which is also an ingredient for a few recipes.

Hope this helps :-)

I could not find any information on this item... or as said craftable items in general. Since this is a new item/option maybe others will find this helpful.
Thank you

Early game they can be useful depending on game play style eg(I just restarted and dont want a house yet so use chests to store things) you will probably build a house (totally normal) which will have a chest already , later game purely decoration. hope i made that clear.

edit I am a mid level player, I know the basics but not the higher level stuff. Oh and I do get too immersed most time I play.

sorry if hijacking post, but any heads up might be helpful, I am almost through first year, slept by camp fire so no house.(now on day 2 of winter) settings are 1000% taxes food water etc, kept bandits, animals hp as default. I am furred up (nice and snug) and packing ( got myself a iron xbow and around 20 bolts. If this gets any traction I will create a new thread.
I 100% in agreement with you. I have my saved play of a solitary life, another where I only have my wife and son, plus another with a complete village. The diversity of the game's possibilities keeps me playing in a different way every time.
