Iron ore deposits -update (excitement over)
are IOD only available from mines/caves or are they scattered around the map. The reason I ask is , that is what I thought(only mines), but I have found a stash elsewhere, is this commonly known?

edit:- this location is bugged, so you cant mine there, and after checking various saves the deposits are not always there nor is the pickaxe. when they are there you cant mine them.

The ones you dig up with a pickaxe (or your villagers dig up for you), you can only find in a mine (a cave where you place a mine building on top).
But you can find lose ore randomly as treasure near abandoned camps, carts, barrels etc.

AH HA wrong,(sorry not having a go just so excited), I found a deposit not in a recognised cave. I am excited to find something that no-one else seems to know about not even morri (for whom I have great respect). I looked at the cave sites an this is not one of them. I dont want to type more if people already know of this location, but it's in a tunnel. if peps dont know about this I will post more.

:-)

Well, the only ones in a tunnel I know about, is a few lose ones strewn at the foot of a little mound of stone in the middle of some water, i think with a bag or backpack near as well. This one: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1129580/discussions/4/5440953210420853911/

But none that are actually mineable with a pickaxe.

Do share if you found something else!

I cant open the link, but this is in a tunnel on a stream, does that sound the same? if not i will post the location, as it is hard to describe.

It's a link to a bug report in the bug section, so you have to open it in steam itself; not in an external browser, since you need to be logged into steam (and in possession of the game) in order to access the bug section.

Is this the location?

if i have this right, nope its not that location, as you dont seem to no I will give the location (sure someone will say, oh yeah I knew that already) I did not mine there so there might be a bug, I am typing (as i just got wolved so waiting to reload) so i can give the best description,
ok look at the map going north from Hornica there is a stream, north of that is another stream, on that stream there is a place that looks like it splits and returns (damn, I have struggled to re-find this place and thought I have to post I cant find it(this typing is in real time so go with the flow)) once your on that stream go down stream and you come to a tunnel that the water has carved out, there is a 'bronze pick?' axe there then if you follow the water theres a water fall.STOP thats where i am referring to. PLEASE Morri check this out a clarify my directions.

Was there a mineable node there? I think I know the tunnel you're talking about. It's the only "cave" in the game that has two openings and a stream running through it. I've seen it several times, but never found any ore nodes there, only loose ore and/or a pickax.

One of two buggy locations doesn't prove the answer wrong.. Does Ore respawn each season inside mines or just inside caves? It also respawns in a slightly buggy way.. you can walk through the new ore rocks.. but you can also still hit them..

Ore inside caves/mines does spawn every season, whether you have a mine building or not. You only need the mine building to be able to mine iron, and to be able to assign workers to the mine.

It's one of the random spawn points where you can sometimes find lose ores laying around yes. There's a few, and they can spawn randomly each season.
Because these ores would easily be missed when they are just laying on the rocks, they have put a pickaxe near them for you to spot, so you'll know to look a bit closer.
(They do the same thing with hidden chests, or a small pile of rocks with coin under btw; adding a shovel next to it, so you'll notice the spot more easy.)

I like all those little touches. Though I must admit, I was a tadbit disappointed that none of the waterfalls in this game have a hidden area behind them.
(That's rule #1 in video games; always check behind the waterfalls xD)

Don't be too disappointed. You may not have been the first to have found it, but it's still a cool thing to discover new things in the game; especially the well hidden ones!
