than you can change any of the other sections in a door section.
it does not matter wheither the door is actually build.. if a wall segment is set as holding the door.. you cannot set another to door.. unless you first change the door segment to a wall or window one.
stair will move towards new door location.
That's where I was wrong. I took out the door, then the wall, then tried to add the door in the new place.

Modifying a house like this unless you own the villager/s living there will become homeless so its easy to set them back into that house as thier stats are red. Place a new bucket of water and some food firewood in the chest
Sorry but as the others said this is WRONG. That is what I tried.
RIGHT WAY:
1: Knock out where you want the door.
2: Knock out old door
3: Replace the OLD doorway with wall or window
4: Put in the new door.
You MUST first change the old doorway to a wall or window, THEN Add the new door. If you try to add the door first (like you say) you get the error 'has a door'
Yes, it will automatically rearrange the furniture placement. You will not have anything to worry about.
