Why do (hired NPC) hunters use their own bows and arrows?
Since a fisherman requires both fishing spears and knives to work, isn't it intuitive that hunters would require bows, arrows, and knives to work? I mean, they're actually shooting arrows and they don't require any. Isn't that weird?

My guess it's gameplay reasons. Bows are not that easy to come by in early game, and then players wouldn't have a way to recruit a hunter already.

Hmmm, I hope it was customizable.
They do require knives, so we can assume that they make their own arrows besides skinning animals.
Except for all those side quests where they say "I want to hunt but I don't have a bow" :steammocking:

I hunt a lot.. I have NEVER EVER used a bow.

I used in early game an iron axe I found in a bandit camp.. I even shunned cutting wood with it.. since it was far more usefull as a weapon.. later I made myself an iron spiked club

it would make sense hunters would need A weapon.. but with me NEVER hunting with bows.. why should they?

Cause when you see their hunting animation they are actually using bow and arrow.

good point.. should not be their only annimation than... seeing them sneak up an annimal holding a knife in hand would be better;)
(or a variant thereoff)

but as you wan it, it would make things more complicated.
**bows use linen tread to be crafted, one of the rarest resources in the game.. it is why fishing is so lousy.. making hunting needing bows makes hunting lousy too.
**arrows/bolts have no durability, how would you calculate their consumption?

so gameplay wise : keep it as is.

So the thing missing here is difficulty settings.

Normal difficulty: knives only
Hard difficulty: knives, bows, arrows

Everyone would be happy if it was customizable.

Introduce guts from medium-large animals and you've solved the weird linen use for common bows. OR ignore that and use rawhide (leather). Do the same for fishing sticks.

Save the linen for the longbow and Recurve Bow.

Arrows are the easy path for them, since there's already a stone arrow production. Just give a scaled (1-10 skill wise) 'opps I missed' loss factor per hunter per day. Probably start with 3-0.1 scaling.

Golly gee Morri ...

How hard would it be for the Hired Hunters to be able to make their own bows, arrows and knives, hmm? It's the Logical trail to follow in developing job/deed classes.
That said, Thinking outside the box, is what I do best, if your devs need/want experienced advice. ;) :medidynasty_wolf:

The problem might be the variety of bow and arrows. How would NPC choose the which bow and arrow to use? The best or cheapest available? Will there be any different in performance between bow and arrow type? Or just durability like other tools? What is the balance if there is any performance differences?

Probably the same reason why NPCs don't use clothing items. Too many variety and combination. Then there is heat protection and cold protection. How to track usage from hotter season to colder season?

Fishermen only needs fishing spear to produce fish meat.
They only need a knife if they are making fish meat out of Roach, Pike or Perch.
So even in the case of the fisherman they don’t use all the tools that a real person would in order to get fish meat. So game-mechanics I guess .

Isn't that the same for any other tools? My lumberjack doesn't mind if his axe is made of iron or stone, as long as there's an axe for him to use.
