Does TARGET PRACTICE give you XP towards hunter skills? & AUTO EQUIP from dismount?
Does TARGET PRACTICE give you any xp towards hunter skills? as in the straw target you setup?

I kinda hate killing stuff i dont need to (except bandits and bears maybe lol) so that's last the last thing i need to grind up..need my fully OP cross bow skills..already at 10 on everything else, but only 5 on hunting. I'm gonna need to go on crazy slaughter spree. and i apologize to everything I kill lol. bandits no problem ...bears well if I need to. boars or wolfs if they in area I need to be and don't wanna get jumped while busy.

Also would be nice if your bow was auto equipped (whatever you had last selected)at least when you dismount...for when nasties jump you. Is there a key for this?

The traps you can set (bird, rat and rabbit) will also give you hunting experience. So whilst you will see the animal corpses in the traps you won’t have to do the slaughtering yourself.

Ensure that you skin/harvest any animals that you do kill as you get hunting experience points for skinning the dead animals. Also look out for rabbits that wolves ocassionally kill so you can skin them to.

(I’m not sure if you get hunting or survival experience points from the clearing the fishing nets.)

I love the hunt.. odd roleplay to not kill;)
-but if you are ok with killing wolf boar and bandits, why not go look for them (they have fixed spawn locations)

and without hunting how would you gain food? are your villagers all vegatarians?

hey Kwalyz and Dutch! well i have been trapping and killing plenty but its only got me to skill 5 i think, i am not maxed out whatever it is. i got 3 uber hunters so got plenty of meat, but that don't increase personal skill. i just don't like to kill stuff unless its a threat, myself or necessary for whatever reason. In rl or in a game lol. the rabbits, moose, badger just look silly, the fox lynx too cute, wolf looks like and sounds like my old dog (dunno whose dev dog they strangled for that sound lol) so i got no problem killing em if they coming for me but when they aren't attacking just howling at the moon, feels bad to spike em in head lol. wisnet thing seems cool, like i don't bother you unless you bother me lol. Bears about only thing that bother in woods in rl or in game i guess. Even with a large bear rifle they can still kill you...or a cross bow lol. I guess the old way way of respecting and thanking the creature for its contribution to you, is ingrained in me. anyway game is weirdly like my rl lol working on house, cutting down trees and watching bunnies hopping around lake.

BUT anyway if anyone knows if the straw target counts for xp like in other games? also do you get more xp the bigger the creature is?

cheers! ;)

I can’t answer your question about XP from the straw target. You might need to test that yourself. EDIT: Tested - no XP points from shooting the target.

You do now get different amounts of XP for different animals.
To give you an idea I took note of my hunting XP before and after killing and skinning a few different animals:
Wisent and bear - 10 XP for the kill, 5 XP for skinning/harvesting from the corpse
Wolf and boar - 8 XP for the kill, 3 XP for skinning the corpse
Moose - 6 XP for the kill, 3XP for skinning the corpse
Deer, fox and badger - 5 XP for the kill, 3XP for skinning the corpse
Duck - 5XP for the kill. I didn't try to harvest as corpse at bottom of river.

Traps - Rabbit, bird and rat - 5XP for collecting from any trap
Fishing nets - no hunting XP

By the way - no hunting XP from killing bandits.

LOL well thanks Kwalyz that was pretty funny line...no xp from hunting bandits....that just seems plain WRONG! lol good lord no wonder takes forever to level up hunter. I went on a trip for the old kill the scary animal quests like 3 times lol and while doing that and digging clay I figured might as well kill a goofy male moose in front of me...sorry goofy moose and some boars in my path etc (left the does )...man take A LONG time to get to level 10 at like 10 ish average xp a pop...meh lol not sure if its worth going after the bears then so few and out of the way. wolfs and boars easy ...unless you run into a hidden 4 pack...that was nasty one lol. they where all hidden in a bush in a creek right on top of me and couldn't see them or hear them till they attacked from just a few meters away...and that was 4 of em
all at once, packed side by side, looked like when pups go for milk and they where right on me. thank you saves!

anyway this be a handy guide the info u posted

well for sports.. I have not killed a simgle thing ingame with a bow.. all with an axe (and later iron club)
-this means sneaking up real close upto them.. as many annimals in the game can outrun you easy.

*if you sneaked in for 30 seconds only for the annimal to get spooked that sucks.. so when you finally clubber one that feels good;)

wisent, wolf and boar are easy hunt due them charging you.. though a fleeing wolf can outrun you.. and since they often come in packs.. that causes issues..

-rabbits, fox and badgers are the only annimals you can actually catch while running at them.. since you are faster... no need for sneakng.. but so little meat & fur from them.. I usually let them be.. besides eating badger burgers no ty!

-this leaves deer and moose.. as the hardest to kill.. and if you kill 1 the others run off.. but also they hive the nice skull drop and good amount of meat..
**hence why I like the sport to hunt them.. those skullsfor decorations canot be bougt or made by villagers only you can by hunting..
-i enjoy the sport is to clubber them down in melee.

wisent while an easy... kill also give skulls so I kill them for that.

wolves are anoying buggers.. like boars.. often screweinh my hunt.. so I kill them if they are about to scare my actual prey away..
nothing more anoying than me 49 second sneaking and a barging boar or wandering wolf scaring off my prey.

lynx.. are bad in all regards.. low meat.. and the fastest thing om the game.. and the easiest spooked.. even with 3 levels in silent sneaking.. they 9/10 still run off before you land a hit.
and even if you do they are so fast they will run off denying you thr finishing blow.
and if you luck out and kill one they hardly give any meat.

bears.. bears give no skull.. and are lonely nowhere near my prey.. i mostly ignore bears.. as they rarely get in my way.

there is also an achievent where you must kill 1 of each annimal.
that includes eagle, raven, duck and dove..
but birds other than that one time I mostly leave alone.. not hard to kill with a sneak up.. just not enough meat to be worth the time spend.

You do get dynasty reputation points from killing bandits just not hunting XP points.

lol yeah man! i just saw that. was running ALL over trying to pick flowers not paying attention broad daylight in open hills in spring day...cant find ONE dang thistle!! like when i needed another flower for quest where thistles everywhere!? ( I had no time to stop to pick them). all sudden i am being beaten lol...look up its the dreaded stockade bandits like four i think! like man im just trying to get flowers to decorate...now that i got my main thing a tavern lol...after i killed em i actually noticed it gave me 60 dynasty points...which i dunno if i actually need em lol i got 20k something of em and only running like approx 20 workers and under 10 kids, got one of most buildings..so i might have like 30 buildings. AND STILL NO THISTLES! me kingdom for thistles.

thisles grow only in summer.. and more in the south of the map (mountainais areas)
-> but there is a large meadow.. east of baranica.. that have like 100 thisles in it. it is the biggest concentration of 3 types of flowers I have seen anywhere in the map.

alternatively you could just set some villagers in a herbalist hut to grab some.. (again only possible in summer)
or alternative buy some from an npc vendor.. in rolnica and in baranica., they restock each season.. and have some all year long.

The irony of wanting to increase the hunting skill without hunting is interesting...

well there could be reasons :
-ranged aiming is better (which could make you better in tournaments... if thats your roleplay)
-you could detect annimals, and sneak softer.. to better avoid confrontation
-you could extract more resources from wild annimals (that includes ironicly when you kill farmed annimals)
-melee weapon and ranged weapon last longer (which is handy to fight off bandits)
-bows and crosbows load faster (which is handy to fight off bandits)
-stamina drops slower (which is handy to fight of bandits)
-you can build more traps (which technically is not YOU who make the kill, but you could just stick to fishing if thats your style, and have more fishing nets)

-you could do a pescetarian run (you are allowed to catch fish.. but not meat)
-a vegetarian run (you are allowed to farm annimals, for eggs and milk, but no killing annimals, likely also no use of leather
-a vegan run (absolutely no milk, eggs, cheese, meat, fish, but also no leather or wool or clothes made of them.. only linnen clothing is allowed.
-a herbelalist run (you are not allowed to consume or grab plant parts that would kill or hurt the plant.. so no herbs (as you take the whole plant).. but grains are ok, as you harvest them when they are already dead, and yes to sticks, but no to logs..
-a fruitarian run would be the most strict.. you would also not be able to consume anything that could become a plant in the future.. so grain is off the menu too.. meaning you basicly have to build with stones and sticks.. and live of fruit.. but NOT grains..

would nerv your play immensly... but some people want to play like that;)

You can't if you want to build out a decent sized village since one of the earlier chapters requires you to hunt an animal to be able to progress. So you'll be forever stuck with a low building limit if you don't do that.
genosound Jul 1, 2023 @ 11:31pm
I've done plenty killin mate lol. i just said i don't enjoy it (CUE QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER line LOL trivia moment) except for nasty bandits them i am all in!

my 3 hunters are all pretty good think one was a legendary one as well and will be 10 skill as one was the first villager I got. as i went to every village routinely to find high skills and hunter is one, paired her to a high hunter guy and gave em a 4 room deluxe house so got uber hunter kids too. and been setting traps since year one or 2.

I usually have many hundreds of extra meat and a lot o fish since i got a legendary fish guy too.

like i said whole point is to get that crossbow skilled up to deal with banditssss lol
genosound Jul 1, 2023 @ 11:35pm
yeah kwalyz wasnt saying you where wrong. was saying they are just mean not giving me hunting points for clearing the valley of bandits...lol even though im just trying to pick flowers for decorating town now lol.
