Mining

I'm trying to turn caves into mines.
I've visited all five caves and extracted all the various ores (tin, copper. etc.) for five years now and I'm still nowhere near the 5000 points needed. What other ways can I build up points besides using a pickaxe on rock faces?

All extracting works; so not only mining but also chopping down trees. Your workers in extraction contribute as well, so if you don't have already, make sure you have workers in the wood shed and excavation hut.

Other than that, building also contributes to it. So if you want to cheese it (and have enough resources), you can just demolish a building and build it up again. And repeat.
Also, you can up the technology gain multiplier to 1000% to make it go up more rapidly if you want to cheese it with the above technique.

if building works, building walls is a bit more practical and less "gamey" than demolishing and rebuilding the same building.

Does the the achievement for "Caveman" ( Having a mine in all caves ) have any particular requirements as I have mines in 5 caves and have villagers allocated to 5 mines without unlocking the achievement. Are there more than 5 mines ?

I went online and found a map showing all the locations of the mines and there was only five. One located north of Branica, one south of Lesnica, one north east of Jezerica, one north west of Hornica and one east of Hornica.

Don't forget insulation. Putting up insulation counts as technology points too.

I'll play online and change seasons to see if that helps.

:Edit I switched to online playing loaded up the game. Rode to each mine in turn in all 5 ran into the mines and harvested iron from the lower reaches; before riding to the next. Arrived home after harvesting iron from all 5 mines.
Slept to the next season resaved the game didn't get the achievement. Verified all files.

You have to do the quests. Some of them increase the technology points very quickly. I always build a warehouse next to a mine to make my life easier.

To make the caves deeper craft the mining entrence. Frame with chest.
Mines are unlocked at 5000 building tech. ;)

I'll try destroying and rebuilding a mine, I have all tech unlocked ... as far as I know.
