I'm adding the sheds into my existing saves, and in one save I have a field that's outside the distance limit. If I build a shed closer to it than the barn, will it fix that?
And thanks for the info! You guys are a shining example of how devs should treat their games and customers. Thank you for that!
Not to barns. Them can you build on the other side of the map now.
All in all: If you have multiple Sheds, it's actually the worst place to store a seed-reserve.
Creates a hell of micro-managing.
Edit:
Oh, and just to have it mentioned:
An old 'Fieldworkers only'-Barn worked the exact same way as the Shed does!
It's nothing else than a small Tier 1-Barn!
Simple solution: place the seeds in the storage area or on the crate. Then all sheds can access them.
Sell the rest of the seeds. They are at zero. Stop selling and put the seeds in the box for sowing.
Nothing with the hell of micromanagement.

The principle hasn't changed and is the same for all work buildings: Villagers will first take what they need from the chest in the building they work in, and if it's not there, they take it from the storage building.
So in this case the farmers work in the shed, so you can put what they need either in the shed chest or in the resource storage shed.
If you did that and they are still not working, something else is wrong.
Check that you assigned crops to the fields and that they have bags as well as fertilizer and seeds.
Do you have bags for them aside from the fertilizer and seeds? (And hoes for after fertilizing and before sowing)
But as Morri said, all item show where to be stored, in the item description.
