farm workers not farming
so I've read a lot of other discussions on this but none of them has fixed it for me. I have 4 people assigned to the barn. my fields are assigned the crops I want. its the right season for those crops. bags, seeds, fertilizer, and hoes are all in the barn chest. I've tried removing and re-adding the workers to the barn. I've stood out in my fields. I've set all other tasks to 0%. none of this works. they are standing around or sweeping the floor and not doing any work in the fields which are right outside the barn. it is seriously irritating that this is not more straightforward!

anyone have some suggestions I haven't already mentioned?

I have numerous farmers (farm shed) who don't work but stand around, idly. The fields and farm shed are close together, the tools/fertilize/bags/seeds are plentiful in the resource chest, etc. I have one village with 2 wheat fields and 1 rye field; I know that 2 farmers can't do the same task; but they seem to quit fertilizing/hoeing before the field is finished, although there are 4 of them. It does give me the chance to make some farming skill points and I don't mind "cleaning up" after them but it does seem that there's some sort of random variable that causes a farmer stay in the shed and sweep the floor. Nevertheless, I still love this game and appreciate the world the devs have created.

I went big on my first field. Just to get farm points. It took a bit to understand that the resources were only part of the setup, I finally realized I had to put the field layout into order so they knew what I wanted to have planted and where. Now as seasons move on the grown crops are harvested and new ones sown in there own plots. strange to see open spots in the field but it works. I could go huge on all the fields but who would eat all that?

How many farm-sheds do you have?
And are they spread across the map or concentrated around a single village?

There is currently a bug which is known and being worked on, where farmers stop working leaving one or two fields unattended. Until it is fixed, a reload (F5/F9) reminds the farmers of the missing work and they immediately finish their tasks.

Wow! Seeing even a link to my actual comment being deleted is a whole new level, now.
Maybe, I should really just forget about this game instead of still wanting to play it. :steamdeadpan:

🤣 I expected nothing else from you, hubbe! Like always.
But unfortunately, you can't take credit for me quitting.
This has nothing to do with your standard recommendation to anyone who plays the game differently or wants different content as you.
Sorry!

I'm really sorry to have to say this, because I actually have a lot of respect for you, Muehle.
But on this topic, I think you've completely lost it.

Muehle, I didn't delete your link, but I can kinda see why it got deleted. Let's just drop the subject in threads that are not about it. At this point it will not accomplish anything anymore other than aggrevate people.

I'd like to keep this thread open because I'm very interested in Lalantie's explanation of that bug - especially since my fields are becoming too numerous to be doing them myself as I've been doing so far (there's something relaxing about the sound of the hoe hitting the soil). I need to dedicate more time collecting sticks and travelling on foot to all the villages selling my home-made baskets to be able to afford my taxes. So I'll start needing the help of my farmhand for busy planting seasons.

I see why it got deleted as well.

I will also close this topic here now since the original question has been answered.

Please everybody try to resists the urge to spam for your cause. It's ok to like or dislike something and actually a great help if you share that with us, but please do not plaster the forum in flyers. Elections weren't that much of a thing in early medieval times.

Thank you!

PS: Here is a topic about a currently known farming glitch. What Lailantie is experiencing may be related. At least we discussed and tested both in tandem.
