Bandits and your Horse

I remember when I had the Donkey and ran into bandits, I dismounted, and killed them all, but they also killed my donkey. SO..if I run into bandits, and want to fight, and dismount, will they kill my horse now?

Your mounts can be wounded by others while you are riding them. And you can wound them any time.

In my experience, they seem to have stopped prioritizing the mount over you as a target now, which used to be an issue I ran into a lot. Though I still am in the habit of riding a ways past the camp before dismounting, so that I can meet them between their camp and the horse.

I'm assuming the horse can easily outrun bandits - but you know what they say about 'assume'. Am I wrong?

What I thought the poster might be writing about was the issue I used to see where any time you stopped to fight after riding by a camp, the bandits would all go straight for your horse and kill it rather than attacking you. That issue does not seem to be happening anymore.
