Logical place for compost bin?
I can't decide where to place it, so I was hoping to get some ideas from others.

I like the new compost bin (public stage 1.5.0.0+) - even more now they increased the weight limit :-) - so I can start using food as decoration and still rely heavily on rot to make fertilizer since it'll be a while before I have animals to gather manure.

But I can't decide where to place the bin(s).

What would be the most logical place to put down a compost bin or two? Next to the barn where I'll be using the rot to craft? Or next to the food storage where I can easily take the excess food from to put in the compost bin? Or someplace else that would fit immersion?

Atm I'm inclined to put it near the barn which is a bit away from the houses. A compost bin will probably not smell so nice, so I guess it makes sense to not put it right next to my kitchen and food storage?
What would you guys do?

I place mine next to the barn because it needs to be turned over from time to time so it is the barn worker's job to do. I like to place the food storage, resource storage, and barn in close proximity to each other so I don't have to travel when I have to do work myself.

I also use the composter as a container for ores and stones next to my excavation shed and mine for decoration.

I have not played the public stage but you can place it anywhere. If you need to carry a lot of material to and from this building, you can use a wicker crate by dropping items into it and then grabbing the wicker crate and carrying it somewhere else. There is no weight limit. I can carry 4000 heads of cabbage from the fields to a barn 100m away without being encumbered.

For realism sake the Barn, Food storage and Kitchen would make sense.
I don't need them anymore for the compost so I have been using them as decorative troughs for the animals. Someone posted some pictures using them as planters which is a great idea too.

Tx for the feedback! I'll place it next to my barn, I guess that makes the most sense, especially if it needs to be turned over (didn't know that).

You have to turn it over in real life, too bad that wasn't implemented in the game, even if I have to do it myself. I think if it's not turned over it takes 3 days to rot, if you turn it over it's ready the next day or something like that

Why not both? Would provide you twice the amount of rot. :)

I keep them right outside the garden irl since that's where the compost is eventually going anyway. Handy to have nearby during the season when you're clearing things that the critters got to, and at the end of the season when you've got a lot of dead plants to add to the pile.

I guess it makes sense you have to let air get to it for it to rot properly.

O no, having it at two different places would make my OCD flare up! I'll just place multiple bins at my barn.

also who collects the rot from the compost bins us or the barn workers?

Only ourself. Villagers have no access to it at all. Just like it would have been if you had dropped the food on the floor to rot.
