What's the Benefit to Getting Copper and Other Ores?
Is there really any point to getting copper, tin, etc? I know you can make better tools with them, but do they work faster, or just last longer? It can be annoying to have to make stone tools all the time, but seems better than trekking back and forth from the caves.

Hi,
They do last longer and you go faster also.
If you cut a tree with a stone axe it will take a certain amount of hit (i don't remember how many) But if you cut a tree with a iron one you'll see the difference ! For the Npc it's the same you won't have to run in all the buildings anymore because they will use it for a long time before the chest gets empty of tool !

They have much more durability and take fewer hits to mine a node or fell a tree. For example: A stone axe takes 5 hits to fell a tree, bronze and copper axes take 4 hits, and an iron axe takes 3 hits to fell a tree.

And I would recommend building a resource storage building right outside a cave, that way you can clear the whole thing out without having to trek back to your village.

Copper tools can be a bit iffy in some cases (copper hoe vs stone hoe - not much benefit), great in other (copper knife), but bronze is way better than anything before it.

Iron tools are marginally better than bronze from pure number perspective... but they require only iron, while bronze requires both copper and tin. Generally speaking better tools are better - at least you won't have to spend as much time (and resources!) making new batch of tools just because old batch is breaking already.
And better tools sell for more too.

Smithy 1 allows only cobber tools so you mine cobber ore. Smithy 2 allows bronze tools so mine both cobber and tin to make bronze.
I only used tools I could craft myself so followed the progress in technology on what tools I was using. 300 more tech for smithy 3 and iron tools.
Or if you are really wealthy can just head for Hornica and buy the best tools.

You can make everything in smithy 1... you just can't unlock bronze tools before you reach smithy 2, or iron tools before smithy 3.

And yes, going to hornica/lesnica and buying ores/ingots is also a way to do it. Especially if you have a decent income source and can't be arsed to go to mines.

Im buying only ores/bars/metal tools when Im in a hurry for some reason.
Crafting the stuff or letting the NPC do it gives experience, which is a thing that shouldnt be neglected to unluck higher tiers of buildings and tech

I tend to skip tin and skip the bronze age altogether just the mix of getting 2 separate resources and smelting extra steps is just a a headache. So I have workers sticking with copper until we have iron production going.

honestly I find enough copper and bronze tools that I don't bother untill I unlock the mine and can start getting iron. I tend to make fully self sufficent villages that might require me to replenish items with stone tier maybe once a year or so.

Seamstress will need tin for making better bags etc

But bronze does pay off. It may be a bit of a headache due to needing both tin and copper, but most bronze tools are 3x as good as copper ones.

Since I do the mining, I rarely do any stone tools. Exept knifes, of course 😁

And go for bronze as fast as I can. That extra durability is worth alot, with that little mining needed.

I personally wait till I get iron. And the mine it and tin with villagers. Tin for the bags. I will mine copper by myself and make copper hammers and hold them for the quests.

I witch to copper knives ASAP. I can't be arsed to constantly craft stone knives. Same with bronze knives - it is the first tool to switch to bronze.
