Kitchen.. seems really slow?
I have my production 3 worker making cabbage/meat pottage. With a population of 9, I never see more than 1 or 2 pottages in the food storage. This is a little disappointing as I would like to see them make a stockpile of food. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or a better recipe for converting raw food into meals that increase their food value? Seems like he's so slow to cook that it gets eaten up as fast as he makes it, with no benefit that I can really see.

Yes. VERY slow imo.

Your best bet is to make some yourself (adjust fire as needed vis-a-vis seasons and spoilage), then let them grind.

OR

Level their production elsewhere, then put them in the kitchen.

In the later tier kitchens, you can put more 2 workers; that helps a little bit. But I agree it's very slow. I'm planning to build at least an extra kitchen (and maybe 2 extra's depending how it goes) for this reason alone.
But ofc, the workers I put in there also have to be fed; so i don't know if I'll ever make enough food for everyone. Maybe when their skill gets higher it'll be doable?

For now good old Racimir cooks their meals at night :-)

It is a good idea to cook a heap of soups yourself and let your cook level their crafting skill by having them produce linen threads (fastest possibility to raise crafting skill that I know). Once their skill is higher, they produce much more soup.

with your population of nine, you will need 9 pottage's per day, if they are all adults. Plus some for your own need. One thing that may help is ensuring they aren't using the pottage to cover some of their water need, this can be done in the villager needs tab in management

I just craft a bunch of bowls and cook potage till I have something like 50 or so in store, the ktchen usually keeps the number from declining too much, when I see there's only a dozen or so I repeat the process.
But it's a hassle, and I have 17 villagers with 2 cooks.

In general a level 3 cook can feed 6 villagers a day if making pottage. So with 9 villagers you will not be accumulating food from them.

A very easy solution which does not require you to craft anything - get your hunter to make some dried meat for them to eat as well. Also allow them to eat fish meat from your fisher (or dried fish, but fish meat is more efficient than dried) and raw vegetables from your fields (eg carrots, onions, beetroot - which you are not yet using in the kitchen).

Your hunter(s) can gather a lot of meat whilst still gathering leather/fur/feathers, so you can get them to put some time into making dried meat. You are likely to be adding meat yourself to the food store if you are doing seasonal quests. Also quite a few abandoned camps and bandits have food on them that you can loot.

Re: fisher - A fishing hut with a level 3 fisher set on fish meat can make 39.6 units per day, so at 4 food value each, they feed 5.28 villagers. If you set the fishing hut to make dried fish as they catch it then they can make 16.01 dried fish, so at food value 7 each, this is 3.7 villagers - but you use less fishing spears per day if this is a problem to produce early in the game.

Ow, this is actually a very good idea. I never thought of that!

Thanks for the info guys. Followup question... why make pottages when I have tons of cabbage and dried meat from the hunters? Seems not worth it to me.

Depends how much free time you have, I simply use the markets to sell everything one fo rresources and one fo rfood. the micro management sometimes gets a bit grindy so move over the cook and just do it myself. Flat bread sells great as well. Have over 300K thats 300 hundred thousand of coin and plenty rolling in from them markets.

That's the way to go, I do the same and rake in the coins.

In the later game, when your village is big or even a town, you swim in coins and you need occupational therapy for all your NPCs, so it is nice to have some of them cook some food :)
