What do you do when your village doesn't need you anymore?
Just wondering what everyone does to keep the game interesting when your village is all built, your industry is self sufficient and you have more money than god.

Strolling around, do what I feel like. Mining sometimes. Woodcutting or farming sometimes. Thats why my saves are One Day seasons now a days.

Nothing. Because it makes no sense to go on playing at that point. You have seen it all, you have done it all several times, nothing challenging or rewarding is left in the game anymore once you finished the story and your town is sellf sufficient. You could start over and again at that point because the first few hours of playing the game are the best ones imo. But that gets boring after three, four or five times too.

Somehow strange that there is not one real reason to create a dynasty or play your own son (and so on) in a dynasty game. Medieval Farmer would fit better imo. I even never played that long so i could play my own son. Because what should i do all the in game years with nothing left to do after a short while? And i would have exactly nothing of playing that long, nothing special happens when you die and play as your own son, when you contiinue the "dynasty". Nothing new will be unlocked, the story is not continued or whatever.

Yeah its pretty much done.

Shame there wasn't things to go wrong, people getting ill, bad crop yield/summer or floods or something to keep you working as a player.

Would be a good way to waste that gold in the bad times and keep the player invested.

I hunt bandits. I run most of the roads every season, some times all through the night, because their campfires are easier to see in the dark. I pick up whatever treasures I find from carts etc while I'm hunting.

Also, I cut down trees along the roads, pretending I'm making them more safe. Bandits can't hide near roads without trees. Is why I'm logging around villages as well. All excess lumber gets sold currently, as I don't have as much need for it. More open roads makes it easier to spot bandit camps and aggressive wildlife.

Must mention, I've customized my game to be as clost to a creative/peaceful mode as I could get. Makes it more enjoyable for me.

At the beginning of last season (summer), I did have an event that made me lose some food, it was a flooding of the fields or somesuch. So far, the events have had little impact on our little village. A few units of food, or loss of 5 mood makes little difference at the moment.

If they would just lock new technology behind each generation and balanced the tech tree to the dynasty part. it would give a real reason to play multiple generations. Like others I have never played as a son as I simple have already done everything except enlarging my village as that just becomes redundant and boring. I really do like the game as I have played through multiple times and even thinking about going one more time as it has been awhile.

Lock tech, yes. And take away the option to play on to many days.
But most important, lock the ways for overrecruitment.
Most often the players owns fault.

In this save Im over 50 years in and still have not unlocked all.

Just pick something your good at and stay with it, when people get old and start dying your have more than enough chaos to keep you entertained for hours.

I have made several villages and have the same. Once done, I don't do much with it. I like the beginning of the game the most. Start with nothing. That's why I have my own challenges. Only do the chapters, you can only sell, but not buy anything. Only when you have a wife do you start your own farm, so not a village with many inhabitants. Run it yourself. In another challenge, I hunted out bandits exclusively for the first five years. took their things and sold them. I wanted to go up to 100,000 and I succeeded. Now I am building a city again with this enormous capital. I play with the settings high, so technology, experience etc. But that's what you want.

Oh I like that idea Claartje! I might try setting my own challenge next time.

I also love starting over again as I like the thrill of finding things you can use in the chests, camps and wagons. Later in the game you don't really need any of those things anymore.

I never felt the game getting boring though and I keep getting back to my favourite village which now also is the oldest. I play it for a couple of years and then I start a new game to go treasure hunting again.

To be fair, I just love the beginning in most games and I have many Alts in all the numerous MMO's that I have played. I guess starting over again in this game is sort of the same thing as creating an alt.

I dont get it.
Why do you want high tech gain?
Sure a big reason to have everything unlocked "to early".
Really talking against your own point with that

I don't get the issue. This game is more a city builder than a survival or rpg game. Look at other city builders. Once you have a self-sufficient town/city there's not much more to do than watch as citizens do their thing. Same in this game. Except in games like dawn of man or banished it takes me maybe 20~30 hours to set everything up. In MD it took me around 50.

But those games can be expanded almost indefinitely. There is quite a limit to what and how big you can build in this.

Imo the game could do with a bit more than build a small village = end game.

Great ideas, and nothing complex that would've required much work to implement. Random events like that also would have helped bring more life into the game. It really needs help in the longevity aspect, but I feel like they're very hands-off and done with it at this point.

I am planning to play again on hardest difficulty (max tax, max consumption) and i dont think i will be able to make my village fully independent :D

Anyway, i think game is kinda flawed. Late game is way too easy. I am sure it is cause by skill system of villagers. They start with skill level 2-3 but end at 10 in endgame. Problem is, one Villager with skill level 10 produces as much goods as five villagers with skill level 2 (or 10 villagers with skill level 1).
