HOUSES NEAR MINES
I built a few houses next to each of my 4 mines. Do I have to keep them all constantly in supply with food and firewood?. Alot of these spots terrains dont allow building storage units or hunting shacks, etc. I try to match the workers with their mine locations, but it gets a bit confusing. Their spouses may work in my town, which is NE of Denica. I see them walking on the map sometimes from the mines to the my town. Any suggestions, or is there something I'm assuming thats wrong?. If they dont have food in their house (at the minesites), does that make their mood go down, and work less efficiently?

First of all; you may ofc build the houses near the mine for immersion, but it's not necessary. Even if your villagers take a long time to walk to their job, it doesn't matter. They will still produce the same amount of stuff while they are walking. So it's purely a visual thing.
(The only exception to this is the people working the fields; they have to physically be working on the field to produce results. So for them it's actually necessary to have the barn, fields and their house relatively close by)

Second: If you have a resource storage building, your villagers can take the firewood directly from there. Same thing with a food storage building for food and drink. It doesn't matter where those storage buildings are placed, your villagers have access to them automatically, where-ever they are.
You will only need to place firewood and food/drink in their house chests if you don't have those two storage buildings.

Their mood will go down if they don't have access to food or firewood yes, til eventually they get so upset (mood drops to -100) that they leave your village. But you get a warning on the top left of your screen when there are villagers without food, water or firewood.

Short answer: no need to build food and resource buildings near your NPCs houses. So long as you have at least one food storage building and one Resource storage building anywhere on the map then all your NPCs will take the items they need for firewood, eating and drinking, work tools and will deposit any items they gather/make during work time in the appropriate buildings.

Farmers work more efficiently when they live close to the barn, fields & orchards as they physically visit the barn before going to a field/orchard to do tasks. They are the only workers who animation is directly linked to how much work they get done. Eg if they aren't in a field doing the animation of harvesting a crop then the crop will not get harvested, etc.

All other workers produce what you have assigned them in the individual building job assignment tab - even if they are not in their work place the entire day. eg: You can have a Cook walking all day and never reach the kitchen and they will still make the food you assigned them to make.

That was very helpful. I appreciate the time you took to answer so clearly.. I never knew they produce even if walking...lol. Thats great, . I ve been running myself ragged going to each house at the 4 mines before I go into the mine. So, basically, I can just destroy those houses if I want and it wouldnt matter. I have the resource 3 building and food storage buidlings in my town, so then I should be OK. Thanks guys.

But like you, and I think many others, I always build houses near the mines and give them a fire to sit round in the evening simply because watching them spend all day walking backwards and forwards across the map does not seem "right" :-)

Does the location of a resource building need to be anywhere near resources on the map (aside from farming/barn)? For example, does a hunting shack need to be near available game, or a fishing hut near a fishing resource?

Also, does the worker actually deplete rock outcroppings when harvesting stone, or is it just a math formula, and I can walk over and mine those myself without impacting the worker?

They will be fine anywhere, but most animations need resources nearby. So, the hunter will actually go out with a bow and a knife to hunt and skin animals if any are nearby. The lumberjack will hack at trees (don't worry, he won't cut them down). I actually haven't stalked the Extraction worker in a while, so I'm not sure about this one.

Its a good thing but also a bit immersion breaking.

Anyway I too give my workers a house etc. so they stay comfy

I like to see them work too. Especially the hunters I love to follow for screenshots.

I’ve stalked Extraction Workers and they do animate when there are resources nearby. Also, Herbalists animate when all the varying plants are in season.

You can mine the rock outcroppings / ore deposits yourself and not affect the productivity of the worker.

Ditto! I assign husband and wife mining teams and I build them a tiny outpost with a simple house or two, a smithy, an extraction shed, a stone campfire, and a table with some stuff on it to give the camp a "lived in" feel. It's just for fun. And also, because my miners get in my way when I'm galloping around on my horse.

The only reason I would build a house for them far out into the mountains is so I can sleep in them in case I traveled all the way there. I suppose I would still have to repair the buildings if they get damaged. Though I think there might be a worker for that too.

i use campfires for sleeping till next day even the tiny ones when in the wild. nice when you have been doing stuff all night and your right next to a village you have to talk or trade with someone and its like 3-4 in the morning.

i too like giving miners a house just have to make sure who your assigning. normally i spread sheet just on skill without any other thought. naming those houses can help for quickly picking the right house.
