In general: It has not been ruled out, but likely won't happen or make much sense during active development.
Thank you !
So, will the game have Mod support?
Anyone knows?
Let me guess, you've never played a single game with mods?
Let me just clarify that Mods are not the same as 'cheats'. Mods are community created content, meant to extend the life of a game, which they do in any game that has mod support.
ARK Survival Evolved would never have thrived if it wasn't for the modding community.
Conan Exiles would've never thrived had it not been for the modding community.
Minecraft would not have thrived if it wasn't for the modding community.
The Sims (franchise) would never have survived for this long if it wasn't for the modding community.
I could make a list that'd make you sleepy half-ways through, but i gave you a few examples so that you get the gist of it.
Mods for a game like this could open up far more opportunities as far as game-play goes.
New maps or new game-play mechanics etc. The list is almost endless, depending on the dev kit and how often it gets updated and released.
It's not needed during active development. This much i agree on, but saying that mods causes problems is nothing but nonsense.
There will come a time when the developers stop with the updates and balancing of the game. When that happens, then what, eh? With mod support, the game would be self sufficient in more ways than one.
I would however like to see you elaborate a bit on what 'problems' mods would create for the game.
I mean, first of all, it's single player with co-op coming further down the line.
Second, there's no private server scene here, so mods wouldn't interfere with anyone but those who use them, or those they play co-op with, once implemented.
Last but not least, modding is optional. If i use a mod, you're not being forced to use them.
So please do elaborate on what problems mods would create, eh?
Cheers!
As a former Player, I can state this. Do you want to know, what made me finaly quit?
Vanilla beeing 3 versions ahead of my mods! Mods can easily become a double-bladed sword, dude!
Mods are tailored to each specific version of the base game. Each base game version is available and you don't need to upgrade to the latest. So when you say that the base game is 3 versions ahead of your mods, then you simply don't know how the mod system works.
There's tons of options for it in terms of mods and mod managers and launchers etc. You just need to know how to find and use them.
It's pretty much the same on consoles, except that on consoles, the game picks the version that the mods were made for and then runs it.
But i'm not about to derail this topic.
Mods are not a double edged sword by any means, and modding is not something you're forced into, in any game you play.
or renounce the mods for the new content. That's exactly the reason, why I lost any fun of MC. ;-)
Ps: Please don't determine me on the 3 versions! What I can remember for sure, is waiting over half a year without CustomNPC being updated! Shortly after MineColony got abandoned by the original Creators.
