Now he can go and woo that gorgeous red head!
He has now decided to wait a couple of years before trying again. ;D
Granted there isn't a lot of differences but it's a lot better than nothing.
I recruited a girl who had straight one's as skills, mainly because I felt like no one else would want her. I put her to work filling water buckets at the village. I found myself making it a point to say high to her each day in passing. Then I guess I got so accustomed to her I finally proposed. Now she stays at home caring for our little boy. Funny how things work out.
But, can one change villagers' wifes? I accidently coupled a 40 years with 28 and they don't... uh... you know... get married.
And, does genetics matter in this game?
Genetics matters insofar as offspring starting stats. Thankfully, genetics does not matter when it comes to anything else, otherwise any in-bred villager would die to Hemophila the first time they cut themselves with a tool.
And once they are, the game will refuse to let you split them apart. So even if you want to move one to a different house; the whole family will move together.
But as long as they are not married yet, you can move them around separately as you please.
You can check whether your villagers are married if they list each other in their 'family' section:

If the section isn't there, they are still single and you can happily move them in with someone else.
Genetics matter in the sense the game won't let you try to marry related people. It simply won't let you move them in together.
As a fan of Crusader Kings 3, and for a 3-D explorable game like this, I have to say this is a big, missed opportunity. But maybe some other game will fill this void someday.
