Can we build bridges?
I built my village around the lake that looks like a fat pig. I would love to put a bridge over the stream that comes off the North West side of it. I have seen no evidence that bridge building is possible. I guess my post is for the Dev,'s in the hopes that it will be added soon... Please and thank you...

nope, can't build bridges. It has been brought up several times.
Don't believe the devs are going to enable it.

Bummer... Oh well, if I can't have that perhaps they will consider putting a 'zoom' option on the map in the 'Management' tab, just like how the map works in the 'Map' tab. I've only been playing a few weeks now, my wish list might grow as I go.

There is no bridge structure to build, but you can improvise and build one by placing logs and planks.

Why won't they just add a damn bridge?! I swear, games these days start out awesome at first-then there's something the designers just decide to drop the ball on and the game loses it's value.

Really? The game loses all its value because it doesn't have a bridge? That statement is inherently flawed. By losing value, that means it had value to begin with. Since bridges have never been part of the game, the game has lost nothing. Try harder troll.

I understand that it has also something to do with the Game engine AI of npc travel.. The roads are designated paths. therefore even with us plonking bridges all over the place npc's would still only follow the designated AI paths, and they will cross water at the nearest place to such a route unless you block such short cuts.

The AI follows player-made gravel roads just fine. I'm pretty sure they can program a bridge the same way.

Bridges would be nice, but to say the game loses its value because you can't build them yourself is silly.

They don't actually. Npc's ignore the player-made roads. If you do see them walking on one, it's a coincidence and they would have taken the same route as if the road hadn't been there.

I must build a good road system, because they seem to always be on it.

If your roads/paths have fences or walls then they have no choice. Normally they take the shortest path from home to work etc. If your road is that shortest path then that's the way they will go. My villagers almost always walk on my roads throughout the village (98 buildings, population 124.. Yes still a village..) because I have fences etc. Where there are no fences ie at one of the pubs with pub gardens or rest spots (fire and benches etc) they will short cut through them. If they work in one of the outlying places (hunter/Herb) then they cut across country despite me having a path. (until I decide to run a fence to and from...) They cross my stream over a bridge I created with planks as they have no other choice as the rest of the banks are fenced. so my road goes to the bridge.. then the planks, then the road again.

I've seen them teleport through fences though, just to get to the shortest route.
