But I would say to people that passing by, sinse your own villagers allready have everything "free".
I always place mine on the road that I made as entrance road to my village. My wife's roasted meat is famous far and wide in the valley. People come all the way from Jezerica to sample it! (P.S. to the developers: it kinda would be cool if you actually saw random people showing up near your village to buy from the market stalls)
Just throwing out some ideas. That would be a nice immersion feature.
You clearly pay them. They both get living, and food. And pretty sure if the devs ad that you need to keep cloaths for your workers, they get them as well.
The point being that you never pay them in money, and the market stalls don't accept barter, so your villagers can't be the ones generating that coin.
And in any case, making money by selling stuff to your own employees is slimy. Look up the history of the "company store" phenomenon from the 1800's/early 1900's.
