Winter Needs to Be More Brutal
It's a cakewalk right now. Maybe not Frost Punk brutal, but if I dive in water then I should be in trouble. Winter should be something one endures until spring.

Water should freeze and firewood consumption should be greater. The we get into producing clothing for villagers and distribution depends on the context.

Is not already firewood consumption double during winter? Or maybe it is 50%? And you have settings where can increase the food and firewood demands to 200%.
I have to agree we also should supply your villagers with clothes but I can see it would require for a new demand to be added and lots of extra programming.
Decay on our own clothes for starters.

it seems to me that already now if you enter the water in winter the effect of the cold increases but I would not disagree to make it more rigid as long as they give us an alternative way to wash ...

mm that's a good call out, if the water is too cold then how to remove "dirty"

Surely, making the washtub available MUCH earlier, and putting it in your house next to the fire may be an option for this.

That said I agree that entering water (outdoors) in winter no matter what you're wearing should = death incoming.

I also agree. I wish that all the water would freeze in winter including the waterfalls. There should be an option for fishing with a fishing rod. So we could pick a hole in the ice with our axe or pickaxe and then fish. Those fish would not need to be visible, like it is now, they would only appear when we pull them out. Our fisher NPCs would also fish like that in winter. Because currently, when we die of cold water, they would die each winter.
That is on my wishlist since EA day one. All stream should be frozen, lakes and large river half frozen. If I must go in the water, I have few minutes to setup a fire camp or perish.
Temperature should also be random just like storm.

For now I increases the "Insensitive" skill early in game and I don't ware winter clothes at all. With the skill at 3/3, my health slowly go down so I just have to keep an eye on my health bar.

Washtub is available from day 1 in the game.
Shame on you Dec 14, 2021 @ 6:27am
As first we need ways to keep the character dry
Then they can wetness in winter much more problematic

As long as your Settler sit at the campfire during it rains i dont see harder temperature mechanics immersive

Oh man, you're one of those: a numbers person. I'm just eyeballing it!

We recruit villagers who roam around the countryside looking for someone to offer them a home.
They are prepared with clothes for all seasons so why should we need to provide them clothes that they already have?
Wouldn't the introduction of providing clothing for villagers mean you have to rush to get tech to 100 just to get the sewing hut?
Wouldn't it also mean more time spent just making money so you can afford to buy enough clothing before getting the sewing hut and still have enough for taxes and recipes?

Now before anyone decides to tell me how to make money and increase my tech points quickly I already know how to do that. I've got a decent amount of hours logged on this game and I have done quick starts, slow starts and starts in the middle. However those of us who know this stuff are "veterans" of the game. What about a new player? Not everyone watches you tube or reads guides or scans forums to learn how to play (win) the game before they buy it. I don't. If I buy a game I learn how to play it as I play it and only resort to forums and the like when I am well and truly stuck. I imagine I am far from alone in this approach to playing games.

Having said all that I'm not against having to provide villagers with clothing - AS AN OPTION

This game is brilliant at providing a nice relaxed gaming experience. Hard wiring a requirement like this would in my opinion ruin this experience at least in the early years of the game.

So you're saying there is room for improvement in thermal management.

Because it's more real to have to provide clothing both for yourself and the suckers who were fooled into following you. Are you still wearing your pre-teen underwear? Yeah, didn't think so.

And ... then you have other issues. Not bad ones ... because I have them too! LOL!
Clothes can deteriorate like 5% ~ 10% per season, and if no clothes are provided when it reach 20% durability the settler won't work. This game is "survival" and winter is harsh. No need to go extreme but need to reflect somewhat the life they had.

I agree. Your parameters are probably not off the mark either. Something is wrong here.
