its damn idiotic now so we need forge to make even primitive shovels ,there was wooden shovels cut from wood what wrong with that?before you are able to make forge u cut tons of trees and have damned stumps everywhere w/o any possibility to get rid of em,who the hell got such fantastic idea?

Iron Shovel is one of the first things I buy in the game. The good news is: the damn thing lasts you about 6 years before you need another one. By then, you've got a smithy.

I have. There were no shovels.

Also, never seen one anywhere else.

My miner digs clay with copper shovels I crafted.

They are not guaranteed to be there as they are random spawns afaik. I have passed through the clay deposit near my latest village at least 7 times in the 7 years since it's foundation and I have only ever found 1 shovel.

Metal shovel can found next to Gostovia. Go a little bit to the left(West) find the bridge over the river. Dont go through, go down(south) a bit to the wood and will find clay spots. Shovel just next to it.

in real life easier to burn the stump out than dig one out for new time players who don't know you can find a shovel or unlucky in finding one it be a good option

yes but if u are chopping far from home and ur shovel get destroyed ,u should be able to make an basic primitive replacement ,its one of very basic tools so i really dont understand decision to remove it from basic stuff.

If you remove stumps, the trees won't regrow. I can understand if you remove the stumps if you want to build at a spot, but far from home?

there are plenty of clay deposits. if you check 2 or 3 and find no shovel, youre really unlucky. i remember not finding a shovel in a clay deposit, ONCE. every other time i did find a shovel.

Why is something so basic left to luck when you first start out?
What is so special about the shovel?
How is it more complicated to make than an axe, or a knife or any of the other simple things that are in your personal crafting menu? All of these things you can make from minute one in game yet a shovel is somehow soooo much more complicated.

It should be in the personal crafting menu when you start the game. The argument that you can find one or more for free doesn't hold water because you can also find axes, knives, torches and so on yet these can be made immediately.

Excellent point. I could never understand why I was unable to craft a simple wooden shovel,
Simple tools should not require a workstation.
They finally added a stone pickaxe to the personal crafting menu but a shovel and a stone sickle still require a special building. Probably also money to unlock this “technology”.


Also, I often check on that clay pit near Gostovia. I’ve never seen a shovel there. Or anywhere else.

Really have to chime in with my one coins worth here. A lot of replies seem to be missing the main point which is not "can I find shovels laying around" or "do you really need to get rid of stumps" it's about the odd decision not to have shovels in the hand crafting menu.

You can make all the other basic tools, wooden hammer, stone knife, axe, pickaxe, hoe (and the knife and pickaxe clearly require something beyond stone and wood for the bindings). And yet you cannot make a wooden shovel? That does not seem logical.

Why the OP might want to make a wooden shovel is irrelevant - you really should be able to.
