Villagers preferance on food
It required some planning but crafted in a day 37 flatbread and 11 white bread. That will last a long time i thought.
Day one I went out hunting. Iron knife broke. Okay better go buy a new one tomorrow.
Day two headed to Hornica to buy knife. While in the area can spend some time mining. Headed home and made some bronze bars with what mined.
Day three repairs, made some daub for houses. Did some some selling of stuff.
Day four winter and sowed carrots. Tech goose. Built that. Where did they sell goose? Run around to a few settlements before find in Gostovia. Damn not enough cash.
Day 5 made a lot of selling of stuff just so could buy the gooses.
When finally turned my attention back to food situation all the bread was gone. In just 5 days. What is it that determine what food your villagers will eat? Why do they not eat the apples that looted from bandites? Those down to 58%.

They eat what you tell them to. You can set it in the management menu and change it anytime.
You could have disabled them from eating bread until they had eaten their veges and fruit, etc. then enabled bread again.
Also, 5 days is 5 months on standard settings.

food and drink are consumed in order of nutrition with highest first, then by condition lowest first if you have two foods withsame nutrition

OMG
So that is what that screen in management does. I had no idea. Thank you for pointing it out.
0 consumtion of firewood. A waste of resources to have villagers craft it then.

You should be aware that the default settings in that tab are to ALLOW your people consuming everything.
So just to make it clear: green arrow means, your villagers are allowed to consume a certain resource while the red X means they are forbidden to use it.
Default settings is, all checkboxes are enabled (green arrow).

So what you said above (0 consumption of firewood) doesn't make sense to me, if you didn't change it beforehand.

I recommend you to allow ONLY the use of firewood because it in fact is the most efficient way to satisfy your villagers demand of wood.

Okay changed it back for production of firewood. I had it set to only 5%. 0 in stock. 0 consumtion. At 20 now. See how that goes.

If it's not enough you'll get the red warning in the top left if they run out anyway.
When that happens, just tell your villagers that freezing is karma for eating all your bread.

If you look at your management screen, you see your villagers demand of woods.
In the screenshot below it's the number in the yellow circle. Left of the demand you see the stored amount of firewood. Notice, if your NPCs are only allowed to use firewood for heating the stored amount of woods in your storages only counts the amount of firewood (compare numbers in the list left side of the screen and the displayed amount in the management overview right side of the picture).

If you divide the demand for wood as it's shown in the management screen (picture above) by 20, the result is what you need to set as the minimum production value for your woodcutters (see screenshot below).
Notice, that your woodcutters need 1 log for each production step of firewood. So if you have them produce 20x firewood per day, they also should produce a minimum of 20 logs per day. But also keep in mind that with each production step the woodcutters produce 4 pieces of firewood.

If you keep it this way, you're always good and your woodcutters will always make enough firewood to satisfy the demand of your villagers.
