We can sell any of our animals at any time. The adults sell for more than the babies. Animals do have an estimated life span eg about 6.25 years for a hen/rooster; once they reach their estimated life span there is a chance they will die.
By far the easiest way is to buy them.
On the management menu there is a page that lists all your animals. This page will show you how old each animal is as well.
When you select an animal you will have along the bottom of the screen a key command to use to sell it …in brackets it will say how much you will get Eg Sell(600).
2 or more adults with at least 1 of each sex, and available slots for offspring is all you need.
Weirdly I had a hen and a cockerel, but the hen disappeared (I assumed it died despite being about 4 years old or less). So I went and bought a new hen chick and blow me if there wasn't 2 chicks after season end. Still no Hen. I have a ghost hen laying fertile eggs!
Bears would be another great animal to train. Find a wounded bear, treat it back to health. He would make a great traveling companion protecting you from bandits.
