Best place for excavation shed?

I need salt and stone from it. P.S do I put the pickaxes into the resource shed so they use it?
And can it be stone pickaxe?

Any pickaxe will do but stone don't last very long so keep a good supply of them.

You can put the excavation shed any were you want it.

You can put the shed anywhere. I usually have a section of my village for all production/excavation houses. The workers go to the stone resource areas during the day and come back. They work 8am-5 or 6pm.. so don't worry about the animations seeing them walking all day. Salt is found in the mines so I don't believe you can get it from the excavation shed.

Put your tools in the resource shed. Villagers will take it from there. Any type of tool is fine. Hope this helps.

Whatever your villager need or produce can be in the two main storages, food and ressource. You never need to use the building storages, except you haven´t main storages or you want to forced use something.
All materials of tools work for your villager, only the durability is different, nothing else.

And except of the mining building you can building whereever you want, The range between your workers, their houses, the workplace and the ressources doesn´t matter, they start with their magical work exact at 8 am and stop at 6pm, except of field workers they have to do their job physical.

I just realize you said salt, salt comes from the mine and so does stone.

You can get stone, limestone, clay and straw from the excavation shed.
