1 if you get it in the head just right. On my restarted game the last time I hated it until I managed to go to Sambor and buy a bow. Spend a bit of money and buy a bow ahead of the quest that ends up you getting one free.

Males have a lot more health but for both head shots do significantly more damage as well.
I think it's 2-3 wooden spears for females with head shots.

When you are hunting with a spear, it's usually a better idea to go after the animals that charge at you like wolves and board since it's easy to shoot at the head and they are easier to kill than male deer anyway (even with arrows later).
hunting flight animals with spears is a pointless exercise. You'll need three noggin-shots to kill a buck and by that time you will have chased it around for at least two in-game hours. Hunt boars and Wisents instead. They'll charge and present a better target. However, you'll better be a quick shot.

The easier way is to get the huntiung lodge up an running early. Making bows and stone arrows does only take collectable resources except for linen thread which you can buy at Denica or Holnica for 75 quid and you only need 2 of those to last you the first 2 years.

If your struggling with spears then go to Lesnica and stick to the water as there are no wolf, collect stones/sticks along the way and craft stone knifes when your almost at the blacksmith or his wife...you get about 20 coin per knife so you should be able to buy a bow and 10 arrows ok.
It's way easier to build them yourself. The hunting lodge is one of the earliest buildings to be unlocked and for 225 coin (75 of a linen string, 100+50 to unlock the bow and stone arrow designs) you can craft them yourself. Normally I'm equipped with a bow and stone arrows by day 3, so I never have to hunt with spears. In fact the only one I ever craft is the one you need for the chapter II quest. If you need to hunt during the first two days, just find yourself a boar and walk up to it until it charges - three whacks with the axe and it keels over.

Try to get a head shot then i usually chase it down with an axe at the start of a new game, they often stop for a while once hit.
I also normally save up for a crossbow as my first ranged weapon, bows are more fun but the crossbow is deadly and last`s a decent amount of time.
To answer your main question though id say 2-3 good head shots with a wooden spear should do it.

Too many to the body that's for sure. Go for headshots_ thats the best way to kill faster, works for wolves too with bow or spear.

Now that you get survival technology points from collecting straw, rocks and sticks on the ground you should be able to get the hunting lodge unlocked on the very first day without even trying since you need those sticks and straw for the house as well as stone ans sticks for tools (and money from stone knives).

if you use the copper spear it only takes 1 as the copper kills them you can kill a few at a time as they just fall x

Perhaps the 1 spear shot was after I had built up some hunting skill points ... I rarely need more than 1 arrow now, and never embarked on spear hunt without 5 in stock (when I remembered to check).

I haven't killed one with a single spear yet, even with a head shot. It usually takes me about 3 , though I'm still in my first year or so and haven't built up many points in hunting.

Wisent are the one's that drive me nuts. Last night I put 8 spears into one's forehead and still had to run away and cut down a tree to make some more spears before it finally dropped.
Fel May 7, 2021 @ 12:16pm
For the wisent, it's easier to go grab your old spears off his head (and take a hit or two that you heal with herbs) and throw them again.
For bears it doesn't quite work as well because they hit harder and they tend to go vertical when you are close, making it harder to grab the spears.

Just stick to wolves and boars, or rabits if you sneak a bit since they die in one shot.

Well, a year old thread with advice that can be no longer valid with current version 1.3.

Active and abandoned bandit camps offer quite rare goods and weapons to plunder. No need to have money, just a simple stone axe to wail upon their heads.

Oh, and yeah ... a Wooden Spear to the head of a bandit, one shot.
DementedGnome Apr 14, 2022 @ 9:09pm
one spear. and then its slow enough to chase and hit with your fists or a cudgel.
