Does the "farmer" villager's skill level matters?

I have fairly big fields, so I wanted to make sure if I was right on this or not.

For every other jobs, the skill level of the villager acts as a speed multiplier but farmers need to physically do the job and I have not seen a noticeable difference in work speed between skill levels of 3 and 6.
It might very well be that I didn't do the testing properly of course but I wanted to make sure since I wasn't able to find anything about this.

I would rather not "waste" my skilled workers on a task that can be done exactly as efficiently by an unskilled new villager but beyond that is also the question of increasing the fields as the worker's skill goes up (or not if they don't get faster).

Does anyone know for sure?

I'm told the farming skill doesn't matter for farmers. Whether level 1 or 10, they will work the fields at the same speed.

The farming skill is used for barn workers and animal breeders.

Yes.
Skill for farmers (when working the fields). Doesn't matter.
BUT: assigning people to field work helps increasing their farm skill pretty fast.
