Lumberjack Isn't Cutting Down Trees
Test version v0.5.0.6 I think - over the last couple of patches I've noticed that my lumberjack has been less inclined to cut trees down and make firewood.

Is is production set up? Axes? Enough room in the storage?
DanloJr May 1, 2021 @ 7:41am
Ah storage - that may well be it.
DanloJr May 1, 2021 @ 8:09am
No it's not storage - that's only half full.

What does the production tab tell you? What have you set up, what skill does your lumberjack have and how much is he producing per hour?
DanloJr May 1, 2021 @ 12:43pm
Log 50%
Stick 25% - freetime
firewood 15%
Plank 10%

Earlier today he had 3 axes to use he now has none and only 6 sticks picked up. This morning he had 20 logs now there's (end of day) with no new firewood and no new planks. It's annoying I'm spending my time creating stuff for him that he should he helping top create him self - btw only 4 sticks where added today.

Do your NPCs actually have firewood? Otherwise they will use the sticks, then the logs and then the planks for heating as well. Or could they be producing something with them?

"freetime" just means that you checked during a time during which he was not working, early in the morning or at night. Usually it tells you how many he should produce per hour.

Wow, your firewood is way low. It's almost certainly getting burned up as fast as they cut it and they're moving onto logs and sticks.

Mine is set:

Logs 40%
Sticks 5%
Firewood 50%
Planks 5%.

My firewood is a bit high, but I run it up during the year and drops in winter. It's fall now and I'm at 417 on the morning Day 3. I'll edit this to tell what it is on the morning of Day 1 Spring.

EDIT: Okay, I forgot to check my ending fall-season firewood. But that's not insurmountable. The firewood stock, the morning of Day 2 winter, was 347. The morning of Day 3 in winter it was 299. So I'm down 48 firewood in one day.

And that is for 14 houses (Simple House, Upgraded Walls).

It wasn't always this good. I used to have to cut firewood a couple of times a year and drop in 100-to-200 firewood over the course of the year. But as time has passed my lumberjacks went from skill-level 2 to skill-level 4. So I can probably drop it a bit now that my lumberjacks are so much better.

So are your villagers just burning evrything the lumberjack gathers, or do you have ample ressource of firewood to make sure they are not burning sticks and logs? My guess is the lumberjacks produce but it gets burned immediately

It's not the firewood so much (I have the consuming of firewood turned down to 50%) he's just not cutting logs, he just stands in the field staring the trees.

But thanks for the tip I'll turn firewood up.

Animation and production are not linked for him. If he hits the tress or not doesn't matter at the moment.

This sentence caught my eye. How can one lumberjack use three axes a day and only bring 6 sticks to the storage? I don't think that one lvl 3 woodcutter can even use three axes a day.

this is my query - you see before the last patch (0.5.0.5) he was fine now he's behaving oddly, and it's continued on to this patch

I always double check all my settings for my NPCs and what I want them to produce after every patch. All my game settings get reset so I just don't trust that none of my in game production settings won't suffer the same fate.

I don't recall them ever changing but you just never know.

This still doesn't explain why he's not cutting down trees or making fire wood.

Unless you have a bug then the issue suggests to me that you're not producing enough firewood. This would lead to logs being cut, firewood being made and firewood being used immediately. This would then look like the lumberjack isn't producing firewood.

When I first started my innkeepers on potage I didn't think they were making any. Then a couple of in game days later I noticed used bowls in the resource storage. They were producing but not enough to get ahead of demand. A little tweak and potage started appearing in food storage.

My suggestion would be to tweak the firewood production and move it up to around 50% to start. Then go out and cut a bunch of logs (say 20) and turn that into firewood (gives 80). Then you can monitor the usage and adjust the amounts to give you a slight over production of firewood.

If you got to the management tab it will show you how much firewood/hr your village is using. Remember however that your lumberjack only produces for 10hrs/day and your villagers use wood from 7am until you sleep. So if you always go to sleep at 7pm then your lumberjack has to produce at least 12hrs worth of firewood in the 10hr work day.
