What are defenses for?
Why should I waste time strengthening my village's defenses if I'm never in danger? Also, why are the quests so poorly managed that they end while I still can't build the main buildings?

The chapter quests, specifically, are the ones that raise your build limit. The story quests aren't really relevant to anything except themselves; you can ignore them if you don't care about the story and you don't want the (fairly minor) rewards.

I just posted a similar comment, there is no point in defensive structures and apparently the Devs don't intend to add any kind of danger to settlements. Side quest don't have to be accepted or completed the main quests don't expire for over a decade of game time.

If you don't like failing side quest then memorize the dialog that quest givers say prior to accepting the quest. Although this may help fail less quests has time goes on the tier of items that will be requested will increase so you will need to keep pace with the quest givers or you may have to straight up buy the things they ask for instead of crafting them.

Or quicksave before accepting a quest and reload if it's something you can't provide yet. There have been multiple suggestions to let the player know what the quest requirements are before acceptance, so maybe that will happen someday.

City defenses are more for show than defense and they keep farm animals from roaming to far if you don't have them in a gated fenced area. I put up palisades around my city just to use up all the logs I had.

city defenses...
for farm animals.....

Dev's, if you're reading this, and this isn't the strongest indicator to you that players are desperate for some purpose in this game; god help us all...

that´s all different kinds of fences. For decoration and with gates for your animals areas.

The story quests are for lower your taxes ingame. Its in the official tutorial book.

F5 and F9 is your best friend. F5 prior to checking on a side quest, F9 if you don't want to do it. I use it always.

Nope, that's the king's challenges (quests you get from the herald).
The story quests don't affect taxes at all.

if u need dangers so desperately why you dont go play M&B or i dunno KCD? this game never meant to be game about war ,you have pallisades but you dont have gates and w/o that they ar euseless as defences anyway .

Don't loose sight that this is a city building and management game. Everything you can build will enhance your village and you can make it look awesome. Ex; Those log fences can be used many different ways besides just to surround your village...be creative!

About quests, All the side quests from other villages not only give you reputation and some coin or item, they also add to your points into your techs and skills. (you have to open your journal (J key) to see what amount of point you will get into a tech) Ex: The guy that asks you to cut down 20 trees will add points to your farming; the guy who asks for a hammer gives you points into building tech, run to one village for another village to buy boots or check out who makes best clothes, add to diplomacy...etc, etc.

The chapter quest have no time limit but should be important as it opens your ability to make more buildings.

The story-line quests now do reward you with reputation and adds to the lore of the game.

I'm sorry. I didn't realize that the words "purpose" and "dangers" have the exact same meaning to you. Luckily for you though, I actually know the definitions between the two, which means that I'm actually not "desperately in need of dangers", though a little bit of "purpose" in the game would be nice.

But hey, if you so desperately need to crap on people in forums over something they wrote, why don't you go read a Dictionary, or I don't know, a Thesaurus? That way, when you decide to gaslight someone in a forum, you'll actually know what the hell for.

I wish someone would create a game that combined Medieval Dynasty and Crusader Kings III, now that would be a fun game.

I agree. I bought this before bandits were added, and they were about to come out. There was a sale right before they did. I wrongly assumed they would attack your village periodically. Sad there's not any point in defenses.

Maybe defenses could play a role in a seasonal event. If you have palisades up you defend against a bandit raid. I don’t want an actual bandit raid to play out btw just an event. And maybe this event only starts to show up 10-15 yrs down the road once you are established and have wealth.
