My villagers are asexual
After 4-5 years these bastards won't mate. They're all within the same age bracket, not more than 5 years apart. I have an equal distribution of men and women. They just don't get married nor have kids.

Sorry if this comes off as a silly question - But did you move them in together?

It's not really clear to new players that YOU have to force the Hookups by making them share a roof. They don't pick their spouse - You do.

You need to make men and women cohabit in the same dwelling to have them breed.

also they wont have kids if you dont have one first if i understand correctly. so get a wife make a kid and youll have more kids then you can think off.

And they've changed it so you can't do same sex cohabitation for population control.

Huh. And here was I, thinking I was being modern by having my first two workers, one male one female, cohabitate in this one house. You know, like having unisex bathrooms.

But this is an expected mechanic, that doing this will sort of force them to breed? Like animals? OK then.

Oh jeez! Didn't know! I was letting them be adults and flirt, I'll pimp them up right now! Thanks!

Put on some jazz and light some candels to make it more humane... ;)

Just to clarify.

You don't have to have a kid first for your villagers to have kids.

My villagers were having kids even before i got married.

Does their "mood" have anything to do with readiness to breed? Mine are all at about +20 to +23. "Meh" level. Summarized by Comrade Dyatlov, "Not great, not terrible."

I am not sure what causes this to go higher, or if it matters. Obviously, I can make it go lower by starving them etc. Currently, they have all their basic needs met. I wonder if adding decorations or lighting would help. Not just mood lighting, but town lights so you can walk around without stumbling in the dark...

No, mood have no affect to anything, except -100, than they leave your villager.
If you put a male and a women in one house with less than 20 years between them, it needs a few season, till they marriage. And a few more for get pregnant, with more than 10 years different the chance gets a little bit lowered, but it will happend.

Great, thanks! I'm going to have to study this courtship stuff. FWIW the most "attractive" NPC is ~9 years older and despite being an available villager/worker, she rebuffs romance interactions, saying I'm too young. Interesting...

Build better houses and their mood will go up. Stone houses upgraded with limestone. Employment also matters.
When they marry their mood goes up substantially. Pregnancy and kids will make them even happier, in +50s-60s.

Thank you!

>> Employment also matters.

I gave everybody a job, but some jobs have almost nothing to do...at the moment. For instance, I don't have many resources for my farmer to manage the fields, and it is winter time anyway, so he sits idle. Does this matter?

No, as long as they have a job that matches their best skill set they can be idle without any negative consequences.
Pay attention to mothers. After they are done nursing they won’t automatically rejoin the workforce. They are listed as unemployed which tanks their mood.
