Fishing Hut?
So I built a Fishing Hut and assigned a villager to it. I have stone knives and some fishing spears in my resource storage. I can't seem to get the villager to actually fish. It just says No Resources on the assignment tab. Well I got tools needed in the resource shed, so what else am I supposed to do? How do I get someone to fish?

Thanks.

Make sure you have the right task enabled. Several of the tasks (the ones that start with a whole fish) are for cleaning fish that you have obtained yourself. The one that has no requirement other than the fishing spear is the one that causes them to produce fish (specifically, fish meat, not whole fish). The "no resources" error suggests that you have enabled at least one of the "clean fish" tasks, since the "produce fish meat" task requires no resources.

Yep you got to catch fish before you can clean them. Thanks.

I always thought those tasks were virtually useless if we cannot set catch pike or roach etc as a task as well. if you've taken the time to catch specific fish yourself why you would then hand them over and set up the work stream to do the cleaning rather than doing it yourself, just seems odd.

The real question, is how did the Native Americans spear and net fish without any linen thread?

Native Americans actually used flax that grew naturally in America long before the introduction of cultivated flax by European colonists. They made ropes from it.
The oldest evidence of flax use by humans goes all the way back to the Neolithic so flax was always part of our lives.
Regardless there are countless other plant fibers that native Americans used, and leather can also be used to tie tools and handles together.

Animal sinew was used mostly, both for tying on points/blades and making bow strings. But I guess it depends on just how primitive you want to go.

That would have been a nice resource to get in the game for advanced bows
