Yup non aggressive animals do that. Just like they do in real life. You wanna hunt a deer get proper gear.
The tracking mode now also tracks blood, so you can track down a fleeing animal like that when you hit them with your wooden spears. Once you get proper gear most animals will die in 1-2 hits

Yes, I agree.. It is very realistic considering you do hunt with a simple bow. I have bought a recurve bow but still had to track/stalk this moose bull for a long time until I could give him the "shot of honour" :)

i don't know if it is a viable strategy with regular stamina settings, but i just chase animals down and hit them with a stone axe to finish them off (after a headshot for deer/elk; wolves die to the headshot with recurve bow + bronze arrows)

I have no problem chasing down rabbits and fox with an axe. Two smacks with a copper axe usually does the trick.

Even with the faster animals like deer on standard settings, it's possible to chase and catch up after they bleed enough to slow down. But you usually need a stamina potion for those i find.

As a wild boar/moose/deer-hunter for 30 yrs irl I find it strange that they scripted max death score as a headshot, which is a "tabu" in all hunting situations due to the risk of serious but sustainable damage for the animal. I think they should have gone for a more real setting on this with a deadly score in the heart lung region, or am I wrong?

True, but for games, the head is a smaller target and move more than the body make it more challenging and give the prey a chance to be missed.

Well, okay but.. They could have made that scoring area as small but in the heart/lung region in my opinion. The "headshot-thing" only belongs in those MMOPRG's like Battlefield.

I will probably order a Keshig Mongol recurve bow now irl.. 300$ is not so bad for a "Monster Bow".. but not for hunting..just for fun target practice. It can do a 180 fps velocity (375 m/s) which is more than my cal .22LR rifle!!

I am very impressed of the Mongols and their horseback recurve bow shooting.. This is a "live fire" practice which not many can do. Noticing the shooter stands completely still on horseback which I hardly could do even standing still on the ground and no wonder they conquered half of our world back in the 1300's!!
