Mount behavior
So I recently got a donkey, my are they adorable! Anyway, I'm using it to ride around and sell my wares (so nice to make 1 big trip now!).

However when I return home, even though I unequipped the saddle and bags, he just stands around until I sleep and then stands in his stall until I saddle up to ride again.

Is there a key I'm missing to unlock him as mount so his behavior is similar to his wife and newborn, where they kinda wander around the stable?

I never take the saddle off. Donkey, or Horse, they sleep standing or lying - just the same as it suits them. I'm not sure the whistle works if there's no saddle on, and no point if you can't ride bareback.

Yep, whistle works whether the saddle is equipped or not. I like the immersion of equipping the saddle and bags like I do with real horses. I just find the lack of animation a bit immersion breaking, with the mare and foal roaming and him just standing there.

Does anyone know if you can deselect a mount to allow them to wonder in the fields and stable?

I just take off the saddle and the horse wanders. But, riding is such a problem as the horse weaves all over the place.

Try 3rd-Person view. Just look in the direction you want to go, then turn your horse with A or D until your head is centered under the mouse-dot again.

Note: mounts teleports into stabe any time you went to sleep even if you were sleeping in the forest near campfire. But they stay at the place where you left them regardless of what is happening around.
Mounts do not run from predators. If wolf starts to bite them, they just cry, no run. The same is when you hit them yourself (I accidentally hit horse with an axe when was cutting a tree).

When I take off the saddle my Horse just stays in 1 place, I want them to move around when the saddle is off so they can enjoy themselves in the field
