when out of inventory press "q" to bring up radial wheel, you can then browse to buildings > houses > simple house
You need to equip your hammer by selecting the key, ie 3.
Then you can hammer the house and build it section by section. You can also press "e" to change section of house to wall, door, window and material.
Hope this helps.
Take a look at this video.
https://youtu.be/Z_ndL8S18Cg
The menu that I open to craft the building hammer and to select the house model opens when you press "Q". The ghostly outlines of the house appear when you have the building hammer equipped, otherwise you only see the foundation.
The menu where I show you that I've picked "build" comes up when you equip the hammer and click the right mouse button. It also allows you to select "repair", "upgrade" (for daub and limestone) and "destroy".
As you can see in the video as well, buildings need enough even ground for you to place them. Otherwise they will appear in red and can't be placed.
You can change the materials and type of wall (with or without window, with door) with "E", you can see that in the video. Don't do as I did, don't change the placement of the door. The furniture at the moment is fixed and you might not be able to enter your home if you change the position of the door.
Also, make sure to quicksave before you place the building. Placing it costs materials and you cannot move it afterwards. So better save before you put it down and load the save when it doesn't look like you wanted it to.
There is a great Fandom page on this topic for planning initial requirements.
