Can't get 'drink water' prompt in river

I must be doing something wrong. I have waded up and down the edge of the river, stood on the edge, gone out deep, tried shallow, tried unequipped, but the "drink water" prompt never comes up. Certain death. What do I have to do to drink from the river?

Actually just look at the surface of the water, then the circle symbol appears and you press E.

And after restarting the game it still doesn't work?

Also try looking at your feet while in the water. I find if I don't look straight down at my feet then I don't get the prompt.

I just looked at my feet and I got the prompt. I said I was doing something wrong. Thank you.

Like Mopspepino said, looking at the surface gives the prompt, there is also the option to crouch and you'll get the prompt, as long as you look at the surface

I do find it funny that the river cleans you slower than the bathtub, but you can't drink from the bathtub. I do wish they let you make a rain barrel. I like to build west of the stuck area in the nice open area. the only downside is the distance to water. I do expect them to add like a water mill like structure to make buckets of water.

I'd also like to build a bathhouse. The game "Kingdome Come: Deliverance" had that right. There were bathhouses all throughout Europe in the Middle Ages. Even in small towns. It was common for men and women to bathe together, which upset the church, as it promoted all sorts of extramarital romping. But this game wouldn't have to get into all that or even show us the inside of the bathhouse. It could just be a fade to black at the entrance and then you're clean. It just bugs me that my character bathes fully clothed. I can take my clothes off, of course, but only strip to my breeches. And I can't put a wash tub inside my house (I've tried).

Water poisoning is a part of the game that hasn't been implemented yet.
In the future you will risk getting sick drinking from a river or a lake. Just like you currently risk getting sick eating raw meat.
My guess is you will need to boil water before you can drink it.

Hopefully all these hygiene things will be addressed with the Herbalism patch that's on the roadmap.
