Repair weapons and tools
I think, for the sake of realism, all weapons and tools should be possible to repair when you have a workshop.

imo, i dont think there is a need for this.
tools are almost a mass product.
to repair an easy (and cheap) craftable tool... ? idk.

Maybe not tools then, but at least bows.
i really hate to disagree,
but once u have a bow - it wont break for many years.

repairing tools/weapons would be nice in "early game".
but to implement a "repairing option" only for the early game? idk.
i prefer, that the devs work at other things.

i thought about that, too.
but the longer u play...

I find it difficult to imagine what a repair mechanism would look like. It would require time and materials., which is what is currently required. Would it make the game any better to require 1 stone and 5 sticks for to repair a stone axe after 50 HP usage, rather than requiring 2 stones and 10 sticks to make a new one after 100 HP usage?

The only real difference would be for tools you cannot yet make, but there cannot be many of these that people have/use.

Yes that seems like what we (or at least i) am thinking of. the amount of new sticks or stones to repair would ideally vary according to how degraded the item has become. it seems to to me that the main character that, on one early quest, help someone repair their... hoe (i think was), should be able to repair their own broken/degraded tools.

A good game to look at repairing objects would be "The Long Dark". So the more something is damaged (eg your clothing, from normal wear and tear, of worse, being mauled by a bear)... Once you get to a safe place (if you were attacke), you can work on repairing/sewing damaged items and clothing.

Well, as a reply to all above, maybe I am just too early in the game (year 2) Maybe my concerns are just "peanuts" in the broader view :D

One thought though..
If the bow lasts for many years, how about it's performance? Will a bow at 30% condition have the same accuracy and shot length as a new bow at 100% ?
if it's cared for yes, bows will degrade over time but then snap so can't be repaired. But tightening the string every so often will ensure it performs as well from first shot to the last when the wood gives up

and how do you tighten the string here?
it's done automatically, irl it's a 2 second process of tying a new bowyers knot, but you'd also take the string off for storage to save the wooden stave becoming permanently stuck in position and losing some of it's springiness

You cannot repair your bows in The Long Dark game, either. You can only mend the clothes. Mechanical materials can only be cleaned, sharpened or repaired on a milling machine. This requires a tough journey and heavy transportation.
At Medieval Dynasty, products are not expensive enough to require repair. As you progress in the game, you will see that this situation, which you think is a problem today, is actually not a problem.
Imagine starting this game as a knight with all the technical possibilities. This would only make you happy for 5-10 hours. Then? Play and see what happened.

Ok, I understand. Never tried the bow irl though, since I am more a competition trap-shooter (clays) and we always fire the guns blind after a session, in order not to keep strain on the firing pin and springs. Same thinking :steamthumbsup:

I am only 60 hrs into this game, so I guess you all are right.. this issue will soon become "peanuts" compared to the other stuff I have in front of me.
I know.. "it's a long way to Tipperary" but probably rewarding. I like when the hours fly away in certain games. Skyrim, Civilization 6 and Farming Simulator I guess I am up to way more than 1,000 hrs each of these if I include earlier versions.

Not at all. I am sure it is something most of us have thought of - at least, those of us who think about such things when playing the game - but I like to try to think through potential mechanisms as well, and I can easily imagine this one becoming rather complicated..

There is perhaps a specific issue quite near the beginning of the game when you get given a longbow. This probably happens before you can make it yourself, so you really don't want it to break. Fortunately, longbows last a long time, and by the time mine needed replacing I had made sure I could make a new one, jealously keeping hold of linen threads from quests just for this purpose (later on, linen threads are no problem, but it takes a while to get to that point), In the same way, I also assiduously collected feathers for arrows, but I am not sure I actually made any in the end, since I always recover them (when they don't disintegrate) and most of the hunting quests reward you with some arrows. I even recovered one of Sambor's when we both shot at the same buck - I hadn't been aware he was close by - and it showed red as stolen goods in by inventory for ages. I've been avoiding him ever since.

I believe something early on would be less useful, but I do think that having this capability once you have Iron would be useful. wooden handled on iron tools fail, but the iron part should continue to function. that they just fall apart is kind of frustrating. I think it would be easy to craft them in 2 parts, then assemble, just like with cooking now.

Make handles, make iron feature. combine into 1 tool. then on tools, features get 4 lifespans, handles get 1. they break and you recombine. this would be perfect to me. Less feed the grind on ore and what not.
