Guide - How to make Money in 0.3.1.4
I struggled to make money when I got back into the game on version 0.3.1.4. So I updated my old money-making guide to reflect the changes of the update.

Here's the guide [www.neoseeker.com]. Let me know if you have any feedback or you'd like to see something else added!

One thing you haven't taken into account is the time to manufacture things. For instance, you assume that going from flax to thread to cloth as zero cost - but if you used the employee to do some other money-making task instead, would you be better off?

It's quite a bit of labor involved in going from flax stalks (10 of which sell for 20) up to cloth, only to be valued at 21. The same effort would likely produce at least one spoon, which would make more money.

Right, maybe as a passive income these things are not that much better, but if you're actively making money, you'll want to craft these things yourself. It's much faster than letting the NPCs do the crafting.

If you really wanted to min-max the money-making process, you would only have Breeders with chickens are geese making Feathers, maybe some hunters. Gathering the sticks or feathers yourself wouldn't be too efficient, though.

One thing that struck me is that flax stalks aren't really worth processing, to make thread, cloth or clothing, unless you also have wool. I make bows and bags for my own use (the simple bag, which doesn't use thread, is better for making money; I haven't checked whether bows are worth making for profit) but I haven't found anything in sowing that uses linen thread/cloth and doesn't use wool to be worth making to sell.

There are a few that are worth making. There are better items to craft, but that doesn't mean Flax isn't worth processing.

Fur Capalet and Thick leather gloves are worth it I would say. Fur Boots too. Also excess Flax Grain in itself is good profit. Crafters who handle Flax stalks do it fast and level quicker.

Those two don't make a profit, actually. You're better off selling the Linen

Hi Johnny thank you for the guide i looked over it, I never worked things out to the extent you did for instance i never thought to consider the selling price for Linen Thread as Linen Fabric. I thought something was a miss and i realised you've done your workings out without having the max barter skill i'm guessing....... for instance i can sell Leather for 6, Fur at 5, Linen Thread for 38 and Linen Fabric for 45. I can sell a Fur Capelet for 158, so the items needed for the Capelet would be 12 Fur = 60 and 2 Linen = 90 which brings the manufacturer cost too 150. Thick Leather gloves = 4 leather and 2 linen, 24 + 90 = 114 manufacturer cost and sell price is 113. No profit on gloves still. But there is a profit still for me in the Fur Capelet granted not much and i won't even bother selling this now i've worked it out,

Also i can sell a bag for 113 and a simple bag for 30 so the manufacturing cost for a bag is 102 and simple bag is 18, so the profit for simple bag increases even over the Bag. I'll certainly do a better job now at working out best profits ;) BTW i got my wife to rethink my talent skills in diplomacy rather then waiting to obtain new skills as it was taking forever thats how i got the barter skill early on.

I'm wondering whether to bother working every item out myself though with my luck they will change the prices in the next update.

Also you should probably update your Straw Hat profit. I believe that now makes profit given you can't sell Reed anymore. People are wondering what to do with excess Straw and Straw hat is a good thing to craft other then saving it for animal feed.

Thanks for the tip. I'll definitely look into that and update the guide.

This is with the Barter skill maxed out

Flat Straw Hat = sc 83 = 1 linen = mc 45 = 38 profit
Pouch = sc 113 = 10 leather + 1 iron = mc 83 = 30 profit
Small Pouch = sc 68 = 8 leather = mc 48 = 20 profit
Simple Bag = sc 30 = 3 leather = mc 18 = 12 profit

A few sewing items new starters could focus on without having unlocked the Fold yet.

Quilted Vest = sc 488 = 3 wool + 2 leather + 2 linen = mc 372 = 116 profit

The vest is defiantly the money maker
