Orchard field size?

I'm preparing a bit for the upcoming update. How big is an orchard square for one tree, approximately? Is it the same size or larger than one square for vegetables?

IMO they are the size of four normal farm plots.... the tree is plated in the middle and you do not need to fertilize to plant them.

It would be nice if there was just a normal tree planting option where you could plant a birch or maple or pine.

Does the grass eventually grow back under orchard trees? I've just planted a few fruit trees and the bare earth beneath them doesn't look so good. I want my chickens to forage in the orchard so they need grass. Maybe just a small circle of bare earth at the roots of each tree?
