planting a apple tree

Hey everyone, sorry to ask a dumb question. How do you plant a apple tree? I bought the seed but do not know what to do next. I have looked for a video or anything in here and do not see anything.

You plan the orchard with the Q-menu, just like you would a field. Then you plough it, but don't put down fertilizer. With a bag and the apple seedling in your inventory you can then plant the tree, just like you would put down regular seeds.

Maybe that is my problem. I put down fertilizer. thank you I will try it with out.

Make sure it's an orchard field, not a crop field. You don't need fertilizer for orchard field. Just plough and plant a seedling.

Hi I'm having the same problem, I got an apple seedling and ploughed an orchard field but I can't plant it.

At what point does it not work? Can you not select the seedling? Can you not put it on the plot? If the latter is the case, are you certain that it is an orchard and not a field?

There are two different kinds of fields. Make sure you chose the right one. You need a bag and the seed in your inventory and the bag needs to be in one of the nine slots for usage. Choose the bag and than there should be two options. Field seeds and orchard seed. Choose the one for trees and than the seed you want to plant.

Sorry to resurrect this topic but...

For anyone still having an issue, like I just was, figuring out how the heck to do this. The bag is actually a "tool" you need to use, and you can buy it off the same person who sells the tree seeds. Here's a straight-forward tutorial once you've purchased BOTH the Bag, you only need one, and one or more Tree seeds;

1. Use the Q-Menu to create an "Orchard" spot.
2. Use a hoe to till the new "Orchard" spot (do NOT fertilize).
3. Put the bag in your hand, like you would any other tool.
4. Right-Click and select "Orchard" then the type of tree you have.
5. Left-Click the bag on the "Orchard" spot you created.

Voila... You now have a tree planted. It'll take about 5 seasons to mature and then you'll get fruit during the Summer season. That said, there IS an exception. HOPS!

Hops will be fully grown after only 1 season, but they are harvested in the Autumn.

Thank you for asking this question, because I had the same one and couldn't figure it out until I read to put the bag in your inventory slot.
