Castle building
Ok let me start off saying I don't want a castle for my little peasant to sit atop as if he was some king. That said I would REALLY love a chance to build a legit castle in this game. My though is actually using the king's herold, guy who gives us quests for the king. Perhaps a long term story/grind where after we do so much for the king he decides our little valley is worth better protecting and charges us, as his most reliable in the area, to find a suitable area and build the castle/fort/whatever for the lord he would send there.

Idk maybe there are better ways but with how much fun I'm having building all the things in this valley that is the one thing I am really missing and want to see, even if it's just like a 1 time event thing and not something we can do constantly. Would also be kinda cool to see my small army of villages working on the castle building as well, so perhaps also tie it in with dynasty rep as well?

Since most players in this game are more into peace and not militaristic act, if at any moment u decide it could be in a DLC with many other military fuctions, this way u can keep the peace and loving players and add several other more militaristic players.
This game has several excelent bases for many kind of expansive worlds/story addicional contents without having to just make something brand new, all u need to do is add it so players "choose" what sort of path to take.

historically the game is set about 2-300 years before castles, so your kinda stretching things a bit far to build one

Ok let me clarify I'm not saying I want massive armies and battles in the game, the bandits we have now is perfectly fine. I just want the ability to build some type of fort/keep/etc. If this is happening before the castle itself was around I believe there where still various types of forts they built that could be an option.

Again I'm not looking to then this into a battle simulator just like to see options for building the more militaristic or wealthy buildings that existed at the time.

At best, if the war would get worst, the Herald could ask us to build few watch tower at specific places on the map and perhaps a barrack. But we won't occupy those structures as we are just peasants, not soldiers.

Not saying this is a Mount and Blade, But u can add extra structures to Protect the Valey even just Recruiting "soldier" to patrol that way we could fill up a bit of empty that is in the valley.
Its the same has it is now with more militaristic structures and some fools looking after the roads so they don't seem so empty.
Like i said "IF" it would be good has a DLC that way it would be optional for the players, and not massive warfare would be added maybe some sorted of more coordinated bandits but like its now, if we choose it.

Well a Motte and Bailey would have existed in this time so thats not entirely true. Although I agree stone castles would be very uncommon.

Yeah this is also a good idea. We don't have to occupy everything we build and everything we build doesn't have to be for our village. I think the Herald is a great avenue for the devs to add more structures for is to build without turning the game into a medieval warfare simulator.

Actually the castle idea would work for end game content which would basicly keep the peace, castles would keep the peace. Once your settlement got to duchy level you could construct the Duchy Castle and that would allow you to become King of your Duchy. In order to form other towns, and name the towns you must construct a castle. Just like in the game of Crusander Kings III, even though its a map game it decided to focus on the nobility part first.

As I said I wouldn't go so far as to make the PC king, you are a peasant after all and peasants didn't move up to kingship. Having the player build some kind of fort, a Motte and Bailey seemed like a good idea, and then also be responsible for initial supply such as X dried/salted meat, X water, X flour, X Iron Spears, X Iron Arrows, and X Bows(long or recurve) would make for a fun and enjoyable end game task imo.

I mean imagine if it was

100 Iron Spears
1000 Iron Arrows
50 Recurve/Long bows
50 Dried Meat
50 Salted Meat
5000 Flour
25 Wine(any type)
25 Ale(Mead)
50 Cabbage
50 Carrots
50 Onions
5000 Gold(soldier pay)

Idk kinda making this up as a go but a rather massive list giving you 3-5 in game years to build the fort and assemble everything so you are on a clock to boot. Personally I think it would be a ton of fun.

I like the idea of building a motte and Bailey to secure strategic parts of the map per request of the king. Maybe only let this option open up once you pass your legacy on to your heir

It'd make sense, other wise there are no defenses and that's not good. It's also a dynasty so having a fortress and an army and everything needed in a dynasty makes complete sense.

Just a question about the picture in the Steam-Library:
Right of the left tree, on top of the hill there...
What kind of building is that?
XD

That's a castle outside the valley. it have a pretty good view on us so that's why we don't need a castle in our valley:)
