where to buy a new bow?

been to the towns and havent found where I can buy a new bow and some steel arrows?

That hunter sambor(something like that), is where i got mine.
Hes quite far north of the starting village and one of the people you speak to for one of the main missions concerning wolves.

Sambor's the only person who will sell you a basic bow, but he only has stone arrows (a basic bow with stone arrows is fine, by the way). Sambor's hut is east of the lakes/marshland in the north east of the map.

If you want something better, then Lesnica's probably best. You can get a longbow or recurve bow from Gizela, along with stone arrows, and you can get iron arrows from Teobald.

You can steal one in a small hut in-between baranica and rolnica where rajmund lives...you will find a few arrows in a same chest...dont worry for your reputation...in gostovia steal iron hoe, iron knife and wooden shovel...there are a few arrows on one of the table's in gostovia and steal some buckets and planks...try not to be seen but -500 reputation is fine in a first year

Sambor also offers a longbow. There are also iron arrows to be found in his inventory, but it's kind of random whether he offers them or not. It can change over time, some days he has them, some days he doesn't - just check in with him every now and then and see what you can get. But it is definitely possible to buy a longbow there.

You can also follow Alwyn's quest line, at one point he rewards you with 20 iron arrows. It is one of the earlier steps when he asks you to introduce him to Sambor because he wants to learn how to become a hunter himself :)

Not the best advice in my opinion. Getting caught stealing is a bad thing and has a pretty big impact on your reputation.
-500 rep is not okay at all, even in a first year. I think you better not try to give advice to other players if this is the best you can come up with.

But that bow is in a hunter lodge away from the main buildings, if you go do it at night no one will see you.

You can also hit F5 steal it then if you are spotted use F9 and reload and try again.

With that said you can craft them pretty early, once you can make the hunter lodge you can buy the bow and stone arrow schematics and the thread needed to make the bow can be purchased for 100. Much cheaper than buying bows.

thanks for the tips, I think I will stay away from stealing for now. is there a map where I can find these various people you speak of? I know sambor the archer in the northern woods... dont know where the others are that you talk about

Gizela is Teobald's wife and you can buy a longbow as well as a recurved bow from her. Iron arrows you'll by from her husband, Teobald.
Open your map ingame (press "m" per default), find Lesnica, it's located far in the west on the map, south-west from Denica. Best is coming from Gostovia if you just follow the river in western direction until you get to a road triangle where Denica is in the south and if you cross the river in west direction you'll get to Rolnica. Again follow the river in south direction, but don't follow the road to denica but travel the road which goes along the river in south and slight west direction instead. You'll come to a bridge and Lesnica is located pretty close to that bridge across the river in west direction.
