How did you name your village?

I call my early villages Gdańsk because my mother was born there. Now my new village is named Toruń because it's a historical medieval town.

Do you give existing, fictional or a more historical name?

I decided today that my town is named Eastlake. It's in English, as German it would be Ostsee, which is the Baltic sea. But then it's around the lake to the east of the map, and I don't know the polish name for east and lake.

That would be "Bałtyk", kind of...
If you translate "Ostsee" to polish it's "Morze Bałtyckie", as an alternative there's "Bałtyk".

I actually don't want my village to be named after the baltic sea :) I want the name to be "lake in the east" or eastern lake. Google translate gives me for east and lake:
wschodnie jezioro

I'm afraid I'll have trouble to remember that one :)

Some nice names here .... haven't thought of a name for my village/town as yet. Mine name would be very 'English' tho :D.
But would be kinda nice if we could have our own sign post 'in-game' though, like the other villages.

My 2 villages are called Ryecote and Plumcote. Ryecote is my oldest village.

Heh, I'm too simple-minded i guess. I have my "Minetown" between Branica and Baranica, then when I moved my town after finishing Alwin quest chain I named my original houses "Oldtown" and my new houses I tagged with "Newtown." Also only did wattle and clay in Oldtown and didn't make Stone houses until Newtown, but that's just to make it easier to move 30 or so buildings. Been thinking of renaming though to "Farmingtown" or Farmington (a town in Illinois) for my farming specific area, then either Butte or Deadwood for my mining area(s).

So I decided what name to use before I realised you were talking theoretically, and just spent 5 mins searching all the menus for somewhere to edit it. Doh.
I'll announce it here so i'm less likely to forget it ...
I decided on Fleecethorpe in deference to my flock of sheep and the Surrey village Thorpe which has a small lake in it and is close to the Thames. Someone remind me of this thread when village naming is actually a thing, please.

Village naming or signposts aren't a thing, yet, but you can still rename buildings, which is how I manage. Renaming the houses and storages based on the areas they are in, and then numbered with or without * based on if they are fully insulated or not.

If you equip your hammer while pointing on a house, you see the name of the house. This is truly helpful.
