Upgrading the resource storage
If I destroy one of my resource storages , what happens to those items not in the chest (presuming that they're still available in my second resource storage)? I want to build a III level one. I have logs stacked, other materials laying around (stone, limestone, planks, straw, sticks, etc.).

If it's your only/last resource storage or destroying it will put the weight capacity under the current content you will lose items.
Since multiple resource storage share the content and add to the capacity, you usually want at least a second or third in a different place (not far from a village that's a bit far from your own and/or near your prefered cave for example).

not quite sure, depends if destroying that store house puts u over the weight limit, your workers will not gather anything since they have no space, but i have done it a couple times and managed to destroy the previous resource storage without any problems, nothing is lost has long has the weight limit isn't surpassed.
I have like 3 resource storages, so i can upgrade them easy and have pleanty of space.

If the capacity of the storage chest isn't exceeded (and everything is duplicated in resource storage I) that's OK, right? I'm concerned about the stuff laying around the barn (not in the chest) ... will it suddenly drop to the ground or be gone forever? I have a ton of logs, etc. all the items mentioned in my post and don't want to lose them.

If all the stuff is on the floor of the resource storage you are about to destroy, it could be covered by the new building. I had logs under a building and stones, and I could never pick them up again. It would be a good idea to shuffle your stuff to another place where it won't be covered by a house.

Yes! thanks for reminding me! I've done that before ... it's going to take time to take 300 logs outside ... lol

You can't destroy the storage when destroying it will make you go overweight, it won't let you destroy the foundation

I removed all the stuff on the floor but still couldn't destroy the build ... I had to remove everything from the chest ... I had to stop production so stuff wouldn't keep storing. Ready to build now.

On short distances you can pick them up, turn around, drop, move, pick up etc. It takes about 4-5 pick-and-drop to move 300, 1000, 2000 logs outside, at a safe distance. Might need to drop a stone first, to hold them in place, depending on terrain.

When that happen, I build a temporary storage building then build the one I want and destroy the temp. one.
Since the storage is shared, it doesn't matter the size/capacity of each storage area, so you can just build a new, larger warehouse, somewhere else. You can upgrade the old one later, if you must, say for aesthetics, buildings limit or some other reason.

Unless the number of buildings is an issue, same as above. Build a new warehouse elsewhere (as the village grows you may need a few of those anyway, to quickly move large quantities of stuff from one point to another, or just for quick access to your stuff wherever you need it), then move everything from the floor into the old chest (provided that leaves enough room to safely demolish), upgrade.

Anything loose on the floor of any building drops to the ground as you destroy the base of the old building. Stuff in the chest will remain if there is room in the reduced capacity after destruction. I took stuff out and parked it before removing a Res storage 1 to replace with a 3 when I had another 3 elsewhere which was not quite big enough for everything. I don't know if you lose things or not if you shrink the total below the contents by removing 1 of multiple storages - I played safe.

I did it the hard way ... removing everything from the floor. I wish I'd taken the risk of letting one item remain on the floor ... just to see what would happen.

if you have lots on the floor, you just have to move it all in order to rebuild anyway, so its better to reposition them deliberately beforehand.

Yup, that's what I did ... thanks for the confirmation!

If you have a level 1 resource building and want to upgrade, it too level 2 all you have to do is act like you're going to build a level 2 storage and then run it up to the current storage building and it will turn the walls and roof green. place it then you just build those items up and the chest stays accessible.

^^ this works
Thank you Grim lidon

One food and one resource building is behind my own house. A second food storage is constructed close to the fields. Cabbage is so heavy on harvest and take a while if had to carry 300 m back to main storage. A second resource building is constructed next to a mine. Not sure what will do when unlock mines in 1000 tech points. Guess I just leave the resource building there.
